The Procurement and Merchandising Lead is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and inventory management of assigned product lines. This role will source product for open stock and specific customer requirements while negotiating pricing and terms. It is also essential for this position to optimize product availability to create high fill rates, while improving inventory asset performance and manage vendor performance levels, supplier contract cost agreements, and any related rebates.
Key Duties & Accountabilities
Ensure the processing of all customer orders in a timely manner in accordance with approved order entry procedures
Provide prompt response on requests for quotation and sourcing
Achieve Year-Over-Year Profitability Improvement targets and goals set by the company
Ensure the timely and most profitable process of all quote requests
Oversee the processing of all purchase orders in a timely manner in accordance with approved purchase order entry procedures.
Utilize ProcurePro database to evaluate current purchase prices to ensure items are obtained from the best possible supplier.
Review and analyze all computer reports and respond to weaknesses in the operation by implementing necessary measures to achieve goals
Ensure adherence to the methods and standardization protocol for the use of the Amtech computer system regionally.
Establish relationships with consumable and equipment preferred suppliers to develop stocking and support programs for packaging material
Ensure product availability of 95% or higher (fill rate) on all stock items
Provide prompt response to inquiries from Sales and customers and resolve quality complaints and other problems promptly and effectively
Direct sourcing activities for deviated costing and custom packaging opportunities
Participate in SupplyOne Procurement Council
Utilize Procurement Council to gain assistance in sourcing and to identify vendors for special applications
Utilize ProcurePro business intelligence database to identify best landed cost guidelines for all consumable categories
Follow HQ guidelines for engaging, supporting preferred supplier base
Completion of PMP sourcing within assigned timeframe
Identify and recommend best sources for products, based on product quality, competitive pricing, dependable delivery and vendor's quality assurance capabilities
Negotiate pricing and terms with vendors, including opportunities to earn volume rebates on purchases. Ensure vendor rebates are processed promptly. Maintain product database to keep current
Validate all vendor price increases before acceptance and negotiate better than market increase acceptance with local suppliers
Ensure all vendors are able to comply with Company's quality program requirements.
Manage vendor performance levels. KPI's include on-time delivery, fill rate, and non-conformances. Manage corrective action process with suppliers
Responsible for Inventory Asset Management, including optimization of inventory turns, and minimized dead or under-performing inventory, warranty claims, and stock transfers
Help to manage customer-specific inventory by maintaining signed Reserved Stock agreements and by tagging inventory as Reserved
Coordinate samples from suppliers when needed by Sales. Provide with minimal delay at lowest cost to Company in terms of labor and product cost
Cross-train in all packaging lines
Educational/ Training Requirements/ Experience
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent business experience
5+ years of work experience in purchasing, sourcing, negotiation, inventory management and quality systems.
Packaging industry and distribution experience is preferred
Critical thinking and negotiation skills.
Knowledge of business principles is advantageous
