Job Description:

The Chief Operations Officer ("COO") position is an executive level position responsible for overseeing and directing the Company's agency operations (other than sales and service). The COO position will specifically drive the design, development and execution of our IT, systems support and infrastructure, project management, enterprise risk management, innovation/technology, quality control/quality assurance, licensing, strategic implementation and real estate initiatives that are needed to support a Top 100 commercial Insurance brokerage organization. The COO will be responsible for developing and then executing various strategic initiatives that drive and enhance the Company's core operational efficiency, allowing for growth and expansion, as well as to increase the Company's overall profitability.

The COO will partner with the CEO and be a member of and work closely with the Executive Management Team, in support of the growth objectives of the Company. The COO position requires elements of both strategy and execution, as well as the ability to collaborate across the entire Company (and industry as a whole), in order to successfully execute the Company's mission.

Successful candidates will need to demonstrate that they have a proven track record for managing the various operations for a commercial insurance brokerage, including a good working knowledge of agency management systems, as well as to possess a strategic mindset and be able to work in a dynamic, results driven operating environment. Successful candidates must also be able to lead, coach, mentor, motivate, recruit and train various team members in support of the Company's strategic initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Set the strategic direction and then oversee the Company's daily operations with respect to IT, Systems support, Operations, Compliance, Quality Control, Innovation, Real Estate, Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance and manage those respective initiatives and teams accordingly.
  • Lead the Company's vendor management process, ensuring compliance with current best-practices regarding vendor agreements, ongoing relationships, risk management and vendor compliance.
  • Identify and implement new technologies that can support the Company's strategic goals and allow the Company to scale and grow.
  • Determine best approach to leverage the Company's data and analytics in order to a.) allow the Company to make informed decisions about how best to service our clients and b.) offer our clients a more robust client experience.
  • Lead the Company's Innovation initiatives, including fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement to allow the Company to achieve its growth objectives. Represent the Company at various Broker-Tech industry forums that serve to drive ideation, investment and innovation in the Insurance Brokerage space. Should the Company choose to become a participant in one of the Broker-Tech ventures, the COO would be the Company's primary liaison, interacting with various industry thought leaders and providing our Company's viewpoint and input to those forums.
  • Ensure both regulatory and Company policy compliance regarding systems and data integrity, ensuring that the Company's data is secure.
  • Oversees the training and education of the Company's employees with regards to systems and other data security policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for developing and adhering to a budget, managing expenses accordingly.

Required Skills:
  • This position requires a broad set of skills, including strategic and customer-centric thinking.
  • Previous experience as department head, team leader or other senior level position supporting the operations of an Insurance Brokerage operation.
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated success in managing and leading a professional team of IT, Systems and Operations professionals.
  • Must possess the required technical skills needed to support the Company's IT and Operations infrastructure
  • Demonstrated visibility within the insurance brokerage space and be able to interact with various industry experts while representing the Company
  • High degree of integrity and desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic professional environment
  • Must be able to think strategically and be able to execute on those strategic plans
  • Must be able to work in a budget-oriented environment
