Job Description:

The role is office-based in Encino.

The Company

PragerU is the world's leading conservative nonprofit that is focused on changing minds through the creative use of digital media.

PragerU Kids is dedicated to bringing parents and educators the resources, support and tools to teach children about America's blessings and limitless opportunities. We are looking for a Children's Content Executive to lead the development of educational material for children, all of which is non-partisan in nature.

Taking full advantage of today's technology and social media, we educate millions of Americans and young people about the values that make America great. We're proud to be voted among the "Best Place to Work in Los Angeles" by the LA Business Journal 2 years in a row.

PragerU Kids is dedicated to bringing parents and educators the resources, support and tools to teach children about America's blessings and limitless opportunities. Our aim is inoculating children against the indoctrination being taught in government schools today, and we will do this through a variety of edutainment content/programming, live events, newsletters and community. We have a unique niche in providing supplemental educational material for children, all of which is non-partisan in nature.

WHAT WE DO

We promote American values through the creative use of educational videos that reach millions of people online. Serving all ages, our content offers a free alternative to the dominant left-wing ideology in culture, media, and education. Whether you're searching for a deeper understanding, a new perspective, or a way to get involved, PragerU helps people think and live better.

OUR IMPACT

PragerU content has garnered nearly 10 billion lifetime views and has changed millions of lives.

Purpose of the Position

This is a new role for an established executive that will oversee the Creative and Production elements of the Kids team and report to the CEO. You should flow easily between Development Executive duties in the traditional film/tv world to a Head of Production. We need someone with strong production experience (at least 15 years) and the ability to develop new product lines that fall within our unique 'edutainment' angle. The ideal candidate should be both a "doer" and a "conductor" by writing scripts, fleshing out ideas, and developing processes and visions within the PragerU way. Must have strong interest and some background with children's content / education and skills/background to continue growing within the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Bridge the gap between the Education team and the Production team. Understand and contribute to what we want to teach, and devise how best to teach it using appropriate resources and lower-level budgets (5-20k/episode in-house). Answer the question: "What happens on screen?"
  • Understand kids programming and how to present educational topics within specific age ranges, working closely with CEO and show producers.
  • Learn from teachers and educators how to best teach a topic, and channel those lessons into visual mediums. Bring your own show ideas to the table, as well as organize and develop ideas from others.
  • Write scripts, creative briefs, show bibles, SOP's, and more. Sometimes spearhead scripts and projects directly; other times, work with other writers and educators to hone projects.
  • Master the PragerU brand and philosophies, from big-picture philosophies to creative and process details. Understand company goals and project goals and help set and maintain "north stars" as projects move through development and production.
  • Manage a team of 15-20 in production (animators, editors, producers, admins).
  • Understand the world of education through our lens with an 8-10-person education writers team, 5-person marketing team as key peers, and other key teams in the Kids division of PragerU.

Successful Candidates Will Possess
  • 15+ years of production experience, including significant creative development/writing abilities.
  • Solid understanding of the Children's educational landscape and how to effectively create content for children (live action, animated, books, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure content is tailored to young audiences in an age-appropriate manner, balancing education and entertainment ("edutainment").
  • Ability to work with startup-type-hustle and not overcomplicate productions. Can think on feet and deal with ambiguity.
  • Strong communication skills are imperative, especially in regard to communicating ideas and processes clearly and succinctly to non- "industry" personnel.
  • Adhere to established processes and structures, including working closely with Heads of Production for PragerU general content to maintain consistency across production units.
  • Top-notch organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects/content lines simultaneously, and work with all elements of a production team (management, writers, camera/grip/lighting, editors, etc.).
  • Strong leadership and ability to garner buy-in from team members, and strong collaboration skills with other departments (marketing, design, etc.). You need to be a great galvanizer, show solid discernment, and also manage up effectively.
  • A true Team Player, proactive, helpful, honest, and calm under pressure. This is a no-ego environment where no task is too small.
  • Flexible and able to "roll with the punches" within an ever-changing game plan, and able to problem-solve on the fly.

Compensation

The final candidate will receive a competitive base salary depending on multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise, and most recent market data. This position is eligible for an annual bonus based on personal and company performance, in addition to our robust benefits package.

PragerU is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Salary range: $175,000 to $225,000 depending on experience of the candidate.
