Job Description:

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced and organized Senior Planner/Scheduler with expertise in electrical systems within the industrial and petrochemical sectors. The ideal candidate will take detailed electrical estimates and develop comprehensive, executable work packages for the construction team. This role will focus on ensuring that electrical construction projects are meticulously planned, resourced, and scheduled to meet project deadlines, maintain cost control, and adhere to the highest safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Planning and Scheduling: Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project schedules for electrical construction, including tasks, durations, milestones, and sequencing, ensuring alignment with the overall project timeline.
  • Work Package Development: Translate electrical estimates into detailed, task-specific work packages that clearly define the scope, labor, materials, tools, and safety requirements for each phase of construction.
  • Resource Allocation: Collaborate with project managers and construction supervisors to ensure appropriate allocation of labor, equipment, and materials for each work package, optimizing efficiency and minimizing delays.
  • Coordination with Estimating: Work closely with the electrical estimating team to understand the scope and intricacies of each estimate, ensuring that work packages accurately reflect the project's requirements and budget.
  • Schedule Tracking and Updates: Monitor the progress of the construction schedule, making real-time adjustments as necessary to mitigate delays or resource constraints. Provide weekly schedule updates and highlight critical path activities.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential scheduling conflicts, resource bottlenecks, or other risks, and work with the project team to develop mitigation strategies. Ensure contingency planning is built into the schedule.
  • Cost Control: Monitor project budgets against the schedule, tracking labor costs, material expenditures, and other project-related expenses. Ensure work packages align with the overall project budget, and flag potential overruns early.
  • Collaboration with Construction Team: Act as the liaison between the construction team and project management, ensuring that all parties are aligned on project deliverables, timelines, and resource requirements.
  • Progress Reporting: Provide regular progress reports to project managers, senior management, and stakeholders, including schedule updates, work package completion status, and resource allocation.
  • Quality and Safety Compliance: Ensure all work packages comply with industry standards and project-specific safety requirements, including NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and petrochemical safety protocols.
  • Change Management: Manage and incorporate scope changes into the schedule, ensuring that any adjustments to work packages or schedules are documented, communicated, and approved by stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement best practices in project planning and scheduling, with a focus on continuous improvement in productivity, cost control, and schedule adherence.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field. Relevant experience in industrial or petrochemical environments is required.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in project planning and scheduling within the industrial or petrochemical sectors, with a focus on electrical systems. Experience in developing work packages and managing schedules for large-scale construction projects is essential.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of electrical systems and installations in industrial environments, including power distribution, control systems, switchgear, and instrumentation.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in scheduling and project management software such as Primavera P6, MS Project, and work package management systems.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex project data, including estimates, schedules, and resource plans, to develop efficient work packages and construction schedules.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey project plans, work packages, and schedules to construction teams and senior management.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously. Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within scope.
  • Collaboration Abilities: Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment, coordinating between estimators, project managers, construction teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Certifications: PMP (Project Management Professional), AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) certification, or equivalent project scheduling certification is highly desirable.

Work Environment:
  • The role will be based in the Houston area office then move to an in plant environment once the project begins.
  • This is a full-time position, with flexibility required to accommodate project deadlines and the dynamic nature of construction scheduling.
