Assistant/Associate Professor of Geology (Climate Sciences)
The Geology Department at William & Mary's mission is to: 1) educate undergraduates about the nature of the earth, the environment and role those systems play in human affairs and 2) conduct original research focused on the processes and history of the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. The department offers a comprehensive Bachelor of Science program and requires an independent research project of all majors that is closely mentored by faculty.
The Department of Geology at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor Level of Climate Sciences. Appointment will begin August 10, 2025. We are interested in individuals with research and teaching expertise in global climate change and sedimentology.
Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant externally funded research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body. Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach compelling courses in Global Climate Change, Sedimentology, other lecture and seminar-style courses at the introductory and advanced level and contribute to the general education (COLL) curriculum. Preference will be given to those who could collaborate with other programs on campus, such as the Environment & Sustainability Program, Marine Sciences Program, and Data Sciences. Successful applicants will have a strong record of scholarly publications in Climate Sciences.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2025).
Previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research is preferred. Candidates with Postdoctoral experience and/or prior experience as a faculty member are preferred.
