Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include:


  • Procure, and Maintain tooling, materials, drawings and work instructions for the tooling techs to allow uninterrupted scheduled coating as much as possible.

  • Managing outside vendors for tool cleaning and chamber shield treatments. This includes shipping out and receiving in materials for the coating chambers, inspecting and stocking incoming parts, and communicating any special or changing business needs with the vendors. Maintaining valid and up-to-date work instructions for the required tasks.

  • Replacing worn, or damaged components as needed by using Teamcenter to identify and supply engineering drawings for vendors for quote requests, identifying the correct vendors for the type of work required. Create material requisitions in Oracle to purchase the parts and follow through with getting approvals for a purchase order. Work through any issues with the vendors including providing any files and/or solid models needed. Finally, track and receive in the new parts and have them prepared per area requirements.

  • Managing the UCP Target Tracking System and providing assistance to operators, coating schedulers, purchasing and engineering as needed to allow uninterrupted machine scheduling as much as possible. This also includes UCP Production and R&D. Maintaining valid and up-to-date work instructions for the required tasks.

  • Purchasing other tools and materials for not only coating, but all production areas as requested by the operations supervisors and leads with Purchasing Card or Material Requisition as required.

  • Working closely with Equipment Engineering on receiving in new tooling, support equipment and prototypes. This will include assembling and preparing new coating tooling and support equipment, sometimes creating PCN’s to integrate these new tools into the production systems. Coating tooling will need to be cataloged into the specific area’s system, cleaned, test fit and stored with all the necessary documentation.

  • Provide troubleshooting and floor support as needed for all areas of production. This includes, but is not limited to, metrology equipment, WLP, cleanrooms, ovens, cleanlines and coating machines.

  • Using sound engineering principles, create designs for coating tooling, tooling support equipment and fixtures as required. From these designs, create and release proper engineering drawings per VIAVI standards and release procedures.

  • Participate and sometimes lead focused teams for yield improvements, brainstorming new ideas, problem solving and data collection.

  • Work with operators throughout the production groups to identify and lead continuous improvement efforts, particularly in the area of coating and handling substrate.

  • Takes the initiative and communicate across Production, Maintenance, Facilities and Engineering groups to streamline processes, reduce downtime and address problems as they occur.

  • Takes direction from the Manager of Operations on special projects and enlists help from other groups and personnel as needed to complete the tasks.

  • Support Equipment Engineering group with CAD work  for new tooling as time allows.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:


  • Self-direction and leadership skills a must.

  • Building of complex mechanical assemblies.

  • Use of basic hand tools and measuring tools.

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.

  • Understanding of basic engineering principles such as torque, pressure, mass, metric and standard units of measure.

  • Ability to write clear and concise instructions and communications.

  • Ability to get along and communicate with others.

  • Basic understanding of vacuum systems, thin film coating and materials allowed in a vacuum chamber.

  • High-level problem-solving skills for both mechanical and procedural tasks.

  • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn and apply various company specific and general use programs.

  • Knowledge of Teamcenter will be required.

  • Knowledge of CAD required
