Position Summary:

The Mechanical/Product Development Engineer leads efforts in both general project design and product development initiatives. This critical role advances Gaven Industries' engineered systems for electromagnetic and RF shielding by leading the design and development of new products while refining existing solutions. The role collaborates across departments to ensure that products meet functional and manufacturing requirements, from concept through commercialization, driving innovation and leading product advancements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of Gaven products and projects, including creating 3D models, 2D drawings, and bill of materials (BOM) using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Take ownership of generating and leading Design Submittals and Architectural Submittals, ensuring accurate documentation and full alignment with project specifications.
  • Perform and oversee detailed calculations and analysis to ensure designs meet functional, structural, producibility, reliability, maintainability, and safety standards.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and product management teams to develop new products and refine existing product lines.
  • Participate in and lead conceptual design and brainstorming sessions to drive innovation in shielding systems and related products.
  • Oversee the prototyping phase, building, and testing prototypes to validate design performance.
  • Perform mechanical system analysis, including force, stress, and load calculations.
  • Implement innovative solutions that reduce product development time and costs while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Coordinate Building Information Modeling (BIM) efforts to ensure project compatibility and integration with other building systems.
  • Review, lead, and modify fabrication drawings to ensure accuracy, manufacturability, and alignment with project and organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and external suppliers to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet performance criteria and schedule.
  • Engage in cross-functional project teams to support both ongoing project designs and long-term product development initiatives.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and configuration control of design processes, development progress, and testing outcomes.
  • Prepare and present reports for internal and external stakeholders on product performance and development status.
  • Lead and support Stage Gate processes in product development, ensuring rigorous project management from concept through the entire life-cycle of production and after delivery support.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the engineering and product development teams.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Autodesk Suite: Inventor, Revit, and Vault.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a focus on innovation in design and development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact across departments and with external partners.
  • Familiarity with FEA tools for stress analysis, e.g., Inventor Nastran or MecWay are beneficial.
  • Demonstrated experience with product development processes, including Stage Gate methodology.
  • Knowledge of BIM coordination and fabrication drawing review and modifications.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience in engineering or design.
