The Supervisor, Building Services coordinates, manages, and/or directs the activities of Building Services staff including custodians, utility workers, pool maintenance person and service contractors including pest control, in the performance of duties related to the custodial department. Specifically responsible for making sound decisions based upon available information and based upon what is in the best interest of the College; and coordinating and balancing Building Services work activities as necessary for optimal performance to maintain compliance with operating guidelines, state/local building codes, and other government regulations.
This is a day position working, 9am-5pm.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
YOUR TEAM WILL INCLUDE
Supervises assigned custodial staff. Receives general guidance, direction and goals from the Assistant Director of Building Services. The incumbent is expected to work independently consulting with the Assistant Director of Building Services when clarification, interpretation, or other assistance is needed to support and execute Departmental, Facilities Management and Planning, or College procedures, policies, goals and objectives.
WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED
Must have a minimum of 4 years of experience as a foreman at all service levels. Must have 5 to 7 years of progressive responsibilities within the facilities maintenance department.
Ability to read, write and understand professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information, and respond to questions from groups of managers, assigns staff, clients, customers, and the general public.
Fluency in English and Spanish.
Must be able to function well in a team/community environment, displaying common courtesies and politeness; frequently interacts with students, teachers, co-workers, and administrators.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, material safety data sheets (SDS), mechanical drawings, operating, maintenance, repair, installation, and procedure instructions or manuals.
Ability to write routine instructions, reports, logs and descriptions of building system problems and needs.
Ability to speak effectively to describe and explain specific problems and operating requirements of mechanical and plumbing systems to students, faculty, staff, and contractors.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK
Must have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver's License for one year, and maintain throughout employment an insurable (as determined by the College's insurer's criteria) or a satisfactory driving record; must successfully complete and pass the College's vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; annual or more frequent review of employee's driving record based on the College insurer's criteria; and safety training as required by management.
Ability to work nights and weekends during weather and campus emergencies, which impact project operations and/or facilities.
