About the Minority Serving-Cyberinfrastructure Consortium (MS-CC):

MS-CC envisions a transformational partnership to promote advanced cyberinfrastructure (CI) capabilities at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). This will be accomplished through community-building and workforce development opportunities, consulting services provided by MS-CC's core team of CI experts, and establishing capacity-building connections among institutions. The MS-CC is financially supported via multiple National Science Foundation grants and operational support provided by Internet2.

Reporting to the MS-CC Director of Cyberinfrastructure Programs, the Cyberinfrastructure Facilitator (CI Facilitator) plays an active outreach role in supporting member campuses and their constituents in advancing their research and education missions. This position involves directly engaging with researchers and educators to understand CI requirements, recommend relevant CI solutions, and guide their implementation, often as part of a CI service-supporting team.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain close working relationships to build CI user and facilitation capabilities for researchers, educators, and IT groups across MS-CC participant institutions. Work collaboratively to understand the needs of researchers and IT staff and provide consultation and expertise in defining CI requirements and implementing appropriate solutions, including input for migrating scientific workflows to scalable data and computing environments.
• Leverage internal and external CI experts and services across the national CI ecosystem for MS-CC participants.
• Develop CI capabilities at MS-CC participant institutions by contributing to and actively leading the development and execution of workshops and training programs for faculty, staff, and students on the importance and use of relevant cyberinfrastructure. Take an active role in MS-CC communications and event planning to drive audience engagement while consistently identifying and pursuing opportunities for personalized outreach and follow-up communication to maximize impact and participation from HBCUs and TCUs.
• Support the prioritization and development of engagement opportunities with other CI communities (e.g., CaRCC) and CI service providers (e.g., OSG/PATh, ACCESS, industry partners) to help them better bridge their programs to the minority-serving higher education community.
• Develop and maintain close working relationships to build CI user and facilitation capabilities for researchers, educators, and IT groups across participating MS-CC institutions.
  • Leverage CI experts and services both internal and external to the MS-CC and across the national CI ecosystem
  • Help the MS-CC understand how to best support and advance campus research and education programs by collaborating with Internet2 teams (e.g., Research Engagement, Network Services, NET+, and Trust and Identity). Work closely with other Internet2 staff to develop plans and execute MS-CC activities, including individual outreach efforts.
• Contribute to developing and operating MS-CC's other workforce development and community-building activities, including communities of practice, CI mentoring, and MS-CC-coordinated internship programs.
• Investigate and communicate new use cases, services, funding opportunities, and workforce development opportunities of importance to MS-CC campuses.

The qualified candidate will have the following:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent, relevant experience in a data-driven field of study.
• 5+ years of experience facilitating CI resources for research and/or education programs at an institution of higher education, such as those for data storage and transfer, computing, software and workflow development, and visualization.
• Experience with CI applications for data-driven research and education across various domains, including Life Sciences, Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences; Arts and Humanities; Engineering and Computer Sciences; and Physical and Natural Sciences. Deep commitment to supporting and advancing data-driven research and education through the effective use of IT.
• Working knowledge of various CI strategies and services for research and education, including those for CI workforce development, and whether operated locally or externally to a higher education campus.
• Excellent communication skills, including listening, analysis, and synthesizing; strong writing, oral presentation, and teaching skills; ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely; and a demonstrated capacity to work effectively in face-to-face and remote (telepresence) environments.
• Demonstrated experience working in collaborative teams and partnerships, good organizational and team facilitation skills.

Other Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Master's degree (or equivalent) preferred, with a data-intensive research emphasis.
• Education or work experience at/with one or more Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), or Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), or relevant other minority-serving institutions, as defined by the Department of Education.
• Experience designing and facilitating campus-operated CI services for data-intensive research and education.
• Experience with the development of Campus CI strategic plans.
• Working knowledge of CI-relevant funding and/or experience with CI proposal development.
• Familiarity with Internet2 and other CI communities and providers across the United States (e.g., NSF PATh/OSG, ACCESS, CaRCC, TrustedCI, to name a few).

Salary Range / Pay Grade:

$70,000-104,000 / Grade I-2

Starting pay is typically from the minimum up to the midpoint of the grade range, and varies based on experience.
