We are seeking an exceptional Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team at Texas Sterling Construction! This role will focus on repairing and maintaining a wide range of equipment, from motor graders and wheel loaders to excavators, backhoe loaders, skid steer loaders, and concrete paving technology from top brands such as Cat, Hitachi, John Deere, Case, and GOMACO. To qualify for this position, you must possess at least seven years of hands-on experience repairing heavy equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A high school diploma or Tech School degree, as well as qualified training in heavy equipment repair, is a plus. Most of the maintenance you will perform will be done at our shop, but some field repairs may be required on a limited capacity
Pay for this role is $36.50 - $40.00/hr depending on experience; Overtime is available.
Responsibilities:
Maintain and repair heavy equipment to the proper standards
Troubleshoot and repair fleet equipment
Perform repairs in the field on active construction sites
Possess knowledge of basic hydraulic systems and check systems for proper pressure settings and make necessary adjustments
Have a basic understanding of hydraulic schematics and the ability to remove, repack, and replace hydraulic cylinders, replace hoses, and reseal control valves
Evaluate equipment to determine needed and scope of repair work and work with the Service Manager
Have a good understanding of power train, including the ability to inspect components and make decisions as to what repairs are needed
Possess a thorough understanding of engines, including the ability to troubleshoot starting, charging, and fuel system problems and remove and replace external components as required
Troubleshoot electrical systems while reading the manufacturer’s electrical schematics and make proper repairs without circumventing the manufacturer’s original wiring configuration
Maintain a positive attitude towards safety and the ability to work safely
Be available for overtime and Saturday work when required
Requirements:
Degree in Technical Field or equivalent work experience
Seven years of experience in the repair or application of heavy equipment
Good understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, engine, and electrical systems utilized in the manufacture of heavy construction equipment
Basic understanding of hydraulic schematics, a good understanding of power train, and a thorough understanding of engines
Ability to handle multiple tasks
Self-starter and motivated person
