What we are looking for: We are seeking an experienced and versatile Test Engineer with a strong background in hardware and software system-level testing to join our Test & Integration team in Columbia, MD. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in testing Mission Critical and/or Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems, network infrastructure, and radio-telephone communications software and hardware elements. The candidate will conduct and provide support for informal testing, customer acceptance testing, and other Test related activities. In addition, the candidate is expected to interface with customers and partners on a technical level, discuss system-level and site-specific requirements, and test plans.
Major Functional Areas and Duties:
Design, develop, and execute test procedures for both hardware and software components
Demonstrate a strong understanding of testing principles, including thorough test documentation, test coverage & traceability, and Test Verification Methods
Plan verification strategies and test specifications based on customer and product requirements, software and hardware requirements, and use case scenarios.
Manage test environment for assigned Test program(s), including managing test scripts and test equipment
Identify and fully document any defects/unexpected anomalies identified during testing with instruction of how to recreate the issue
Review and interpret system and software requirements from a testability perspective
Maintain well organized record of test results and generate historical analysis of test results
Communicate technical issues or project details with Test Management, Engineering, and stakeholders
Qualifications:
Hands-on experience testing Air Traffic Management, Radio Control Equipment, and/or VoIP systems
Experience working with digital and analog telecommunications including VoIP and radio systems
Experience in developing internal and deliverable system-level test procedures, preferably for mission critical equipment, within a production environment.
Experience working with telecommunications systems and related technologies (VoIP, T1, ISDN, POTS, TDM).
Ability to write clear and concise test plans and test procedures based on system requirements and clearly document defects.
Excellent problem solving, analytical and technical troubleshooting skills.
At least 5 years test-related work experience - including hardware test experience
BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Equivalent Experience (at least 3 years) with IT and telecommunications hardware and software
Desired Skills and Experience:
Experience using industry standard test tools and equipment (e.g. Oscilloscope, Transmission Impairment Measurement Set (TIMS), Multimeter, Viavi T-BERD, Sage Multi-Channel Test Instrument)
Experience with commercial performance, simulation, and analysis testing tools (e.g., VOTER, GL Comm TDM Solutions, etc.)
Familiarity with industry standards such as ED-137, MIL-STD-461G, FCC 47 Part B, FAA-G-2100H, FAA NextGen, DO-278A
Experience with network analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark (preferred), Ethereal)
Familiarity with Linux operating systems and basic IP network skills
Experience with bug-tracking systems (e.g., JIRA (preferred)) and Test Management Systems (e.g., JAMA)
Strong understanding in Test Methodologies, Agile/Scrum software development processes and project life cycles
Strong written and communication skills
Ability to work concurrently on multiple tasks and projects,
Ability to work independently and with a team
Special Notations or Conditions of Employment:
On-site Position (Columbia, MD) with hybrid opportunity
Up to 20% travel may be required
Customer/Government sites for on-site testing and support when required (must be able to obtain clearance to work on Government sites)
Internationally to receive training at company headquarters in Vienna, Austria, when applicable
Must be authorized to work in the United States
