Job Description:

Job Summary

Serves as liaison between Grote Industries and its customers and suppliers. The QE has practical knowledge of the use of quality tools, such as 6 Sigma, 8D, 5S, Kaizen, APQP, PPAP, quality system audits, GD&T, Project Management, Warranty Analysis, Reliability Projections (including Weibull, Probability Distributions and other empirical modeling) and Design for 6 Sigma. The QE may be called on to lead teams of peers and subordinates during problem resolution or warranty product improvement.

Interacts with Grote's customers. The QE establishes a working relationship with the customers and provides timely, accurate and appropriate response to customer concerns, problems or requests. When customers encounter product problems, the QE uses disciplined problem solving processes and principles to resolve issues.

May interact with suppliers. The QE will communicate requirements for quality systems, product and processes to the supplier. For quality and/or warranty concerns with the supplier, the QE will ensure the supplier correctly identifies the root cause and implements sound corrective action(s) and gets buy-in from Grote Engineering.

Monitors quality systems, metrics and processes to support Grote's goals (such as PPM targets, Warranty Defect Rates, etc), meet Quality System registration requirements and various customer requirements. The QE works with Teams in establishing quality plans and problem solving.

Job Responsibilities

Ensures and maintains the quality guidelines, procedures, and standards are consistently followed throughout the manufacturing operation.

Responsibility & Customer-Focused:
  • Uses statistics and other data analysis techniques to monitor and improve products and processes.
  • Focused on the Continual Improvement of assigned product lines, processes and customers.
  • Actively works to meet Grote Industries goals and objectives (such as PPM's, Warranty Targets etc).
  • Assists and leads Engineering and Manufacturing in implementation of appropriate Quality/Manufacturing tools to ensure quality products, on-time launches at full production approval, irreversible corrective action and more.
  • Interfaces with customers to determine requirements and resolve issues.
  • Serves as a member of assigned Product Development Group. Supports the NPI process, procedures and flow.
  • Acts as champion for assigned initiatives.
  • Interfaces with customers to determine requirements and resolve issues.
  • Utilizes and leads the use of quality tools to solve problems.

Integrity:
  • Develops appropriate warranty metrics to facilitate an understanding of warranty issues with Grote products (including those which are purchased for resale).
  • Prepares/submits Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation.
  • Prepares periodic Quality reports, data and presentations.

Respect & Family:
  • Works with Engineering and Manufacturing in implementing customer requirements, quality standards, process requirements and measureables.
  • Provides assistance and leadership to Engineering to resolve warranty issues.

Other Functions:

Backup to the Dimensional Layout Inspector including operation of the Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
  • Interfaces with customers when necessary, serving as back up to Quality Engineers.
  • Required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties as requested by supervisor.

Education/Experience/Skills
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
  • Three years of experience in a similar job.
  • 2 to 3 years project management experience.
  • OEM/Heavy Truck Tier 1 supplier is a plus
  • Six sigma training, Green Belt preferred.
  • Quality certifications are a plus.
  • Analyzing warranty.
  • AIAG core tools.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Preparing analytic reliability presentations.
  • Work at a highly motivated level with a sense of urgency and dedication to accomplishing tasks.
  • To interact with all levels of employees.
  • Able to multi-task.
  • Ability to type on computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
