Job Description
Responsible for providing operational oversight and leadership for the UM SJ Medical Group primary and specialty care practices. Lead the optimization of clinical, operational and financial outcomes for the ambulatory practices. Partner with providers, practice directors, managers and frontline team members to achieve identified key performance indicators in support of the goals of the medical group. Enhance and transform the care delivery model within the Medical Group in collaboration with leadership. Work
is performed under general direction. Direct report to the Senior Vice President, Clinical Integration.
Primary Responsibilities
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.
• Responsible for directing and overseeing the Ambulatory practice operations within the UM SJ Medical Group which includes multiple Practice Directors focused on achieving clinical, operational and financial key performance indicators.
• Demonstrate innovation in the development and implementation of cost reduction strategies for the ambulatory practices in conjunction with the VP, Finance of the Medical Group. Closely monitor productivity to ensure a balance of fiscal responsibility to provision of services to patients and physicians.
• Support executive leadership in strategic planning for the Ambulatory Medical Group practices.
• Maintain awareness of the current and potential competitive forces in the marketplace and ensure the Medical Group is well positioned to execute its strategic vision. Identify downstream revenue opportunities for the Medical Group.
• Ensure alignment with value-based care team leadership to ensure the successful implementation of action plans to achieve value-based care savings.
• Establish comprehensive metrics and reporting to evaluate team performance to ensure goals and objectives are being met.
• Identify and resolve operational and performance gaps and obstacles; recommend/implement changes and improvements.
• Serve as an exemplary role model for leadership to all Medical Group practices and UMMS organization.
• Develop the annual operating and capital budgets and volume projections for the ambulatory practices in collaboration with executive leadership. Monitor and assure monthly financial performance to budget, oversee the completion of monthly budget variance reporting.
• Collaborate and meet with leaders to understand their operations and identify financial and operational opportunities to reduce costs and increase operational efficiency.
• Maintain a high profile with the providers within the Medical Group to ensure their needs are being met to ensure cost effective, quality ambulatory care.
• Maintain ongoing communication with medical group providers and address identified concerns in a timely manner.
• Utilize various data sources to monitor service, cost, and practice key performance indicators.
• Incorporate data into practice development and practice operations.
• Analyze operational data and prepare assessment reports for administration.
• Collaborate with the Value Based Care leadership team to assure implementation of action plans to achieve cost savings for the organization. Actively work with Practice Directors and providers to achieve identified goals.
• Serve as operational leader for the Access to Care Value Delivery System initiative in conjunction with NTO leadership/team members.
• Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations (e.g., The Joint Commission, OSHA, HIPAA, etc.) and UMMS policies and procedures.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of operating policies and procedures.
• Promote the use of HRO principles in the performance of job functions.
• Participate in hospital patient safety initiatives such as daily safety huddle, value delivery system activities, and continuous learning for improvement (clinical program).
• Foster a culture of collaboration, problem solving, innovation, continuous learning, and a one team mindset.
• Mentor staff in both technical and soft skills to develop a team of highly competent, consistent, thoughtful, and customer-centric experts.
• Evaluate staff effectiveness and oversee development and implementation of training programs to improve performance.
• Oversee and perform managerial functions including hiring, discipline, training and development, and preparing performance reviews in accordance with UMMS policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education & Experience - Required
• Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
• Eight (8) years' progressively responsible experience in healthcare, healthcare administration, business operations, or related field.
• Five (5) years' progressively responsible supervisory/managerial experience in a large provider group
practice.
Education & Experience - Preferred
• Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
