The Ohio State University (OSU) Department of Astronomy seeks a Post Doctoral Scholar to work with Dr Jonathan Crass on the advancement of the iLocater program. iLocater is a near-infrared high-resolution spectrograph being delivered to the Large Binocular Telescope in 2025 before starting an early science and technical characterization program. In the next three years, the iLocater team will be advancing the instrument development and upgrading key elements including the addition of an optimized solar feed for characterization and science, equipping the instrument with a laser frequency comb for calibration, and developing the instrument data reduction pipeline to best use these new illumination sources for science. The Post Doctoral Scholar will lead and support these efforts as part of the iLocater team. This may focus on either data reduction pipeline development and/or hardware development and testing. Additional members of the iLocater team at OSU include Dr Marshall Johnson, Prof Richard Pogge, Prof Ji Wang and Prof Scott Gaudi. Minimum Education Required

Doctoral degree in Astronomy, Astrophysics or related area required by time of hire.

Required Qualifications

Experience in exoplanet precision radial velocity studies, radial velocity data reduction pipeline development, and/or astronomical instrumentation is desired. Individuals with experience in adjacent fields such as broader exoplanets, solar/stellar astrophysics, astronomical data reduction pipeline development, and laser physics will also be considered.

The OSU Department of Astronomy, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a Post Doctoral Scholar to join our team. The target hiring range is $63,000-$67,500. The actual salary will fall within this range based on internal equity, the candidate's qualifications and available funding. The position is for up to 3 years with an expected start date of Summer/Fall 2025. The position will be based on the OSU main campus in Columbus, Ohio, USA and may include travel to the Large Binocular Telescope in Arizona, USA.
