Job Description:

Augustana University invites applications for an Instructional Designer. This full-time position will primarily collaborate with content experts to design, develop, evaluate, and revise instructional content, courses and curriculum for predominantly online and hybrid courses that are part of degree and certificate offerings.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Support faculty members to develop or redevelop courses for new and/or existing programs based on appropriate pedagogy, andragogy, and heutagogy that support all learning modalities with suitable instructional technologies in all class formats.
  • Assist in evaluating courses for adherence to institutional expectations, accessibility requirements, and industry standards.
  • Research, assess, examine, and apply best practice, theories, and methods for enhancing instructional practices and technology usage in traditional, online, and hybrid courses.
  • Construct online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses that adhere to industry standards with innovative teaching and learning methods with suitable integrated technologies.
  • Collaborate with others in IT and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to provide faculty development opportunities.
  • Manage and track progress on multiple design projects and keep projects within budget, resource, and time parameters.
  • Manage resources and other information related to distance learning, instructional design and technology, and professional development.
  • Serve as a specialist for best practices and approaches for online, hybrid, and traditional class design based on innovative learning methods for faculty members from various departments
  • Research, analyzes, and evaluates new technologies for potential application in instruction.
  • Teach online and/or hybrid courses (primarily graduate).

Qualifications

* Master's degree in instructional design, and significant online teaching experience in higher education.

* Evidence of collaborating with others to develop effective hybrid and online learning courses or programs that meet industry and/or accreditation standards.

* Knowledge of learning management systems and emerging tools as related to teaching and learning.

* Exceptional oral and written communication skills are essential.

OR

* A combination of a master's or doctoral degree in a closely related field; Instructional Designer certification from a reputable, industry-accepted organization with a recognized high-quality program, such as Online Learning Consortium, Quality Matters, etc., AND significant online teaching experience in higher education.

* Evidence of collaborating with others to develop effective hybrid and online learning courses or programs that meet industry and/or accreditation standards.

* Knowledge of learning management systems and emerging tools as related to teaching and learning.

* Exceptional oral and written communication skills are essential.
