Location: Sequoia Transitional Care, Skilled Nursing Facility, Porterville, CA

Position Overview:
Sequoia Transitional Care is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Activities Director to design, implement, and oversee a dynamic activities program for our residents. The ideal candidate will be responsible for organizing recreational, social, and therapeutic activities that enhance the quality of life for residents in our Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). This role requires a compassionate individual with excellent organizational skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and a commitment to creating a stimulating and engaging environment for elderly and long-term care residents.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement a comprehensive activities program tailored to the interests and needs of residents, including group activities, outings, and individualized programming.

  • Plan and coordinate a calendar of recreational, social, educational, and therapeutic events to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

  • Work closely with nursing and care staff to assess residents' abilities and preferences, ensuring that activities are appropriate and engaging.

  • Facilitate group activities such as arts and crafts, music, games, exercise programs, and special events.

  • Engage with residents on a one-on-one basis to provide personalized attention and meaningful activities for those with limited participation.

  • Encourage resident participation and involvement in activities, helping to foster a sense of community and social interaction.

  • Maintain and organize all activity supplies and equipment, ensuring availability for scheduled events.

  • Collaborate with families, volunteers, and external groups to provide additional resources and activities for residents.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the activities program, making adjustments as needed to meet the evolving needs of residents.

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to resident activities in skilled nursing facilities.

  • Document and maintain accurate records of resident participation and activities in accordance with regulatory requirements.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in recreation therapy, gerontology, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a skilled nursing or long-term care facility.

  • Knowledge of therapeutic recreation, dementia care, and the needs of the elderly population.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with residents, families, and staff.

  • Ability to motivate, inspire, and engage residents in meaningful activities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

  • Certification in Activities Programming (preferred) or willingness to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with residents with dementia, Alzheimer's, and other cognitive impairments.

  • Creative and resourceful in planning engaging, therapeutic, and innovative activities.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and inspire a team of assistants and volunteers.
