EPRI provides thought leadership, industry expertise, and collaborative value to help the electricity sector identify issues, technology gaps, and broader needs that can be addressed through effective research and development programs for the benefit of society.
This position will reside in EPRI’s Advanced Nuclear Technology (ANT) program which performs research to support the development and deployment of new nuclear reactor technology. Within the ANT program, this position will focus on the Nuclear Beyond Electricity (NBE) technical focus area. EPRI’s NBE initiative is focused on developing and supporting non-electric missions for nuclear power, including but not limited to the following:
Nuclear-Industrial Applications (such as process heat and electricity for refining, desalination, mining, steel, and chemical industries)
Low Carbon Fuels (such as hydrogen, ammonia, synfuels, etc.)
Flexible operation and Thermal Energy Storage systems
District Energy
Data Centers
Water (Desalination) and Wastewater
Maritime
Medical Isotopes
Responsibilities will include:
Developing and implementing research strategies for non-electric missions for nuclear energy.
Leading or conducting research for nuclear integration with industrial processes with minimal direct supervision.
Working with EPRI members and other industry stakeholders to ensure research priorities are aligned with stakeholder needs as well as industry timelines.
Helping to develop and identify new research areas or projects.
Manages small or medium (less complex) projects including budgets and resources without direct people management responsibilities.
Effective communication of complex strategies and results, expressing thoughts clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, to subject matter experts, program members and advisors.
Leading proposal efforts and new promotional work.
Developing research or services opportunities of value to EPRI members that fit EPRI’s mission and capabilities. This will include solving customer problems, producing insights and information vital to the members, and delivering information in a manner that members and customers can and will apply.
The ideal candidate will have:
Knowledge of nuclear power plant designs and industry.
System level understanding of the primary and secondary side of a nuclear power plant.
Experience leading projects and deploying new technology (could include projects outside of the nuclear power industry).
Knowledge of one or more non-electric applications of nuclear energy.
Project management skills, including scope, schedule and cost development and management.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Available to travel both domestically and internationally.
Enthusiasm for working on a variety of projects and eager to learn new things.
Education & Years of Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required.
12+ years of experience within Nuclear Industry.
