Overview

Job Summary

The Office of Economic Transformation’s (OET’s) mission is to accelerate the growth of New Jersey’s economy by conceiving and implementing initiatives that enhance the State’s long-term economic competitiveness and establish New Jersey as an innovation leader within key strategic sectors, including life sciences and technology, transportation and logistics, clean energy, offshore wind, financial services and advanced manufacturing.

The Clean Energy Intern will perform duties that will assist the Office of Economic Transformation with the development and implementation of impactful programs and initiatives, focused on greenhouse gas emissions reduction and climate resiliency.

They will gain first-hand experience working in a State government that has some of the most ambitious clean energy targets nationwide, as outlined in our Energy Master Plan - including renewables deployment, energy efficiency technology support, clean energy financing, and zero-emission vehicle adoption - paired with an economic strategy to create a stronger and fairer New Jersey.

Interns will receive exposure to project and program analysis and implementation, building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, sector development policy, and interacting with numerous government agencies, private sector entities, and non-profit partners.



Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports Senior Project Officers and other member of the Clean Energy team in developing and administering programs that strengthen the State’s innovation ecosystem and increase competitiveness in the Clean Energy sector

  • Conducts research and analysis, identifies and engages with key stakeholders, assists with reviews and processing of applications, and prepares draft documentation for internal and external audiences for Clean Energy programs such as NJ ZIP, NJ CELs, and C-PACE

  • Maintains industry knowledge and remains abreast of the latest developments in the clean energy sector; conducts research on clean energy initiatives in other states and countries
  • Promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative, and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff, and external customers
  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.


Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and to foster communication with business professionals and EDA staff
  • Ability to synthesize findings and propose actionable solutions
  • Knowledge and understanding of economic development, policy and industry trends related to the Clean Energy sector, and at least a basic understanding of green finance
  • Ability to prioritize workload, must be highly organized, detail-oriented, handle various tasks simultaneously and work independently within limited time constrains with little or no supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and EDA staff
  • Demonstrates respectful behavior and promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff and external customers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software packages
