This critical role will conduct commercial and trading activities associated with grain origination including a large presence of identity preserved non-gmo grain. In addition, this role will be responsible for grain origination, executing hedging activities, as well as oversee the merchandising profit and loss of KENTGrain elevator. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
There is one merchandiser that will report to this position.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Trade commodities and other products at terms that contribute to maximizing company profits
Manage cash grain, exchange for physical, and hedge execution.
Order processing for risk position
Perform low-cost analysis scenarios
Initiate and/or respond to customer inquiries regarding grade reporting, accounting, bids, hours, contract status, etc., in a manner that exceed the customer’s expectations
Maintain relationships with elevators, farmers, feed mills, meeting and exceeding customer goals, objectives and expectations
Facilitate communications and exchange of business information between plants
Assist in evaluating and communicating changing crop and market condition to appropriate managers in a timely and accurate manner
Assist in the maintenance of U.S. production and supply and demand analysis for corn
Administer guidance and open communication with appropriate accounting staff
Work closely with operations teams to receive quality grain and maintain grain quality within our facilities
Identify market opportunities and present to plant management to maximize profitability
Provide market intelligence to sales and operations to ensure optimal efficiencies within our facilities
Maintain grain warehouse license and administer tasks required to uphold it for the state
EDUCATION:
Bachelor degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Business, General Business, Finance or related field
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 8 years’ experience in business economics, ag-business, and/or commodity trading with demonstrated analytical aptitude
Demonstrated ability working with computer software, including MS Office Suite
Proficient written and verbal communication skills
Proficient with computer software, MS Office, Power BI
Basic understanding of accounting principles, market values, pricing and margin factors is highly preferred
Sales knowledge is a plus
Negotiation skills
Working knowledge of cash commodity trading and Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) experience is desirable
