Vet Technician/Nurse - Anesthesia (FT3)
Position SummaryProvides patient care for ill and injured animals in the Small Animal Anesthesia Department of the Veterinary Medical Center. This position works in the Anesthesia Support Center which is a branch of the anesthesia department to provide the hospital and patients with supportive care. This position will be utilized for their technical abilities including but not limited to performing anesthesia, sedation, patient care, radiographs, venipuncture, IVC placement, and more. MSU's Veterinary Medical Center provides extraordinary benefits to their employees, as well as opportunities to learn and grow within. Other working responsibilities include instructing and demonstrating techniques to students and assisting clinicians, while also maintaining supplies, equipment, and cleanliness of the anesthesia support center hospital areas.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/SkillsKnowledge normally acquired in the first two college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug- dosing, and sterilization; experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software is preferred. New graduates are encouraged to apply. Licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.
Desired QualificationsExperience as a veterinary technician in an educational setting.
Experience in Electronic Medical Records software, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work HoursThis is a full time 3rd shift (10pm-8am) position, working four 10 hour consecutive days with overtime, if necessary. There is a shift differential for this position.

Summary of Physical DemandsThe veterinary technician will be lifting animal patients onto cages and medical equipment; carrying animals between cages and exam tables and gurneys; pushing carts containing animals and equipment to other units; climbing stairs carrying lab samples; restraining animals; preparing for medical procedures and treatments. Lift animals up to 50lbs individually and up to 150lbs as a team.
