SUMMARY

Under the supervision of Assistant Office Chief/Section Chief, the Senior Public Health Advisor will coordinate and support disease intervention efforts. This role includes managing deployment schedules and ensuring that deployment updates are shared during regular program status meetings and that any personnel issues are handled in collaboration with Human Resources (HR) Policy staff, maintaining professional standards and adherence to HR policies. The Senior Public Health Advisor will work closely with internal and external partners to manage the infrastructure, training, and support for disease intervention and support expanding the public health workforce. Additionally, the Senior Public Health Advisor will be responsible for evaluating program outcomes, providing regular reports to the executive team, and ensuring the completion of time reporting and other administrative tasks.

The position will interact and collaborate with several multidisciplinary CDPH teams as well as multiple other internal and external partners. 

May be required to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

This is a ELC funded, limited term, benefitted position through June 2026, and may be extended. 

The salary range for this position is $98,000 to $130,000 annually depending on experience/ qualifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Provide work direction to all teams of multidisciplinary staff in support of disease intervention.

  • Provide orientation and adequate training to new staff assigned to OIDPR.

  • Report out any significant updates at standup calls or disease intervention report out meetings.

  • Respond to assigned drills about assignment process and data from executive team requests.

  • Coordinate with HR policy lead on organization of program and coordination of local health department support.

  • Collaborate with OIDPR Team Leads on regular joint meetings to foster a streamlined approach for teams to work together.

  • Complete regular time reporting on time each pay period.

  • Schedule standing team meetings to foster a positive work environment.

  • Assist with presenting during staff onboarding.

  • Triage issues and concerns that may affect the work of redirected staff on disease intervention (e.g., OIDPR equipment).

  • Develop advanced policies and strategic plan for supporting infectious disease intervention in the future.

  • Collaborate with State Teams (e.g., Training & Support Team) on innovative ways to promote a positive workforce environment for redirected staff and supervisors/managers assigned to LHJs.

  • Ensure all staff receive initial and ongoing training.

  • Provide administrative support and direction to staff.

  • Evaluate program outcomes and make necessary adjustments to ensure program success.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external partners.

  • Actively participate in and support program evaluation and quality improvement activities. Provide input regarding the development and implementation of robust and useful data collection tools.

  • Assist with development, implementation, and documentation of Pathways Fellowship and Internship Program activities, protocols, processes, and decisions.

  • Coordinate internship marketing and identify LHJ business needs to match with appropriate interns.

  • Provide training and hands-on work experience in local health jurisdiction (LHJ) host sites to individuals from historically underrepresented and diverse communities who are interested in public health careers.

  • Organize program marketing presentations for interested candidates and LHJ host sites to encourage program participation.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS


  • Knowledge of and experience with communicable disease control activities

  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial; energetic; and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with particular experience drafting, reviewing and editing documents  

Education/Experience 


  • Master’s in Public Health, Health Administration, or related field; required

  • Two years of experience related to this position, including program planning, project management, providing support to leadership, and public health, required

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising multi-disciplinary staff, teams

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is remote and must be available during normal Pacific Time Zone working hours.

Must have functioning internet access in remote location.
