About the Position
Responsible for collaborating closely with project managers to develop comprehensive and cost-effective budgets and performing essential accounting tasks including preparation of monthly pay applications, management of subcontractor pay applications, and analysis of financial data to support informed decision-making. Supports field operations and the finance team through job cost accounting, subcontractor compliance, and budget analysis. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial success of our construction projects by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing insightful cost analyses, and ensuring budgetary compliance throughout each project's lifecycle, in compliance with all general accounting principles and practices and in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations.

Day in the Life
Collaborates with project managers to develop comprehensive and cost-effective budgets for construction projects. Maintains accurate records of project finances for both internal and external auditing purposes. Stays updated with developments in both the construction and accounting industries to enhance expertise and contribute effectively to project success.
Interprets financial data and information to prepare insightful cost analyses for project evaluation. Analyzes project transactions and identifies unforeseen costs, making necessary adjustments to the budget as needed.
Performs various accounting tasks, including the preparation of monthly pay applications, estimation of cash flow, and approval of vendor invoices and subcontracts pay applications. Assists project managers with subcontractor invoicing, change orders and contract management. Identifies and reports any financial risks or budget discrepancies to management for thorough review and resolution.
Checks, verifies, and processes material invoices to appropriate job numbers and cost codes into accounting system through use of Company-issued purchase orders and subcontracts on a timely basis with high degree of accuracy. Works with vendor contacts and purchasing team to identify and resolve any disputed invoices or errors in billing. Creates the billing environment based on work rules outlined in the contract.
Works with project team to ensure vendor or subcontractor compliance and identifies pay with paid subcontractors to authorize timely payment of construction draws. Coordinates weekly payroll uploads to projects from partner contractors to ensure timely, accurate and reliable data. Prepares partner true-up reports according to contract agreements.
Enters job cost transfers and prepares project reporting. Assists operations team in evaluating projected costs/estimates. Maintains project equipment list.
Consults with project team and accounting/finance team as needed to ensure consistent financial practices and strategies are maintained and problem-solving occurs with all appropriate parties involved.

Minimum Qualifications
Required Education, Experience and Skills
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in business, finance, accounting, or a related field. Certification in construction accounting preferred.
Minimum 3-5 years of work experience in private or public accounting, with experience working in a deadline-driven environment, preferably in the commercial/industrial construction or engineering industry.
Knowledge and experience in interpreting ambiguous language on Collective Bargaining Agreements. Experience and demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding of proper job cost transactions and activities, project budgeting and costing procedures.
Experience and skills working with confidential data and working knowledge of construction regulations and practices. Demonstrated understanding of basic accounting practices, principles and guidelines and the annual budgeting process.
Experience and demonstrated proficiency in using database, spreadsheet, accounting and billing software and systems, preferably eCMS system. Expertise in Microsoft Office software applications, specifically Excel, Access, Powerpoint and Outlook.
Meticulous attention to detail and a prominent level of accuracy in financial record-keeping. Superior analytical and mathematical skills and a quantitative background. Demonstrated high quality documentation and report preparation skills.
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time. Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems with critical thinking skills and process orientation, and to drive appropriate solutions with self-initiative and sensitivity.
Superior listening, written, verbal and presentation skills, and the ability to communicate with employees at all levels, including senior-level management. Strong consultative skills.
