The University of Miami's Frost School of Music seeks a Director of Bands. This is a tenure-track position, with rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The ideal candidate must have a consistent record of excellence as an educator, conductor, supervisor, and student recruiter at the university level. The candidate will be characterized by strong interpersonal skills, administrative abilities, a collaborative nature, and a demonstrated commitment to a collegial and mutually supportive environment for our students and colleagues alike.
Duties will include but are not limited to
Director of the Frost Band Program, including the Frost Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Band of the Hour, and University Band.
Serve as conductor of the Frost Wind Ensemble.
Direct doctoral, master's, and artist diploma students in wind conducting.
Teach and develop graduate and undergraduate courses in conducting, literature, pedagogy, and related fields.
Assist in mentoring graduate students and maintaining the excellence of the graduate programs in wind conducting, including recruiting, advising, supervising dissertations, and providing support for a small cohort of doctoral, masters and artist diploma students.
Work closely with staff and other faculty in maintaining and building on the international reputation of the band program at the Frost School of Music.
Maintain an active performance schedule with Frost Wind Ensemble and guest conducting ensembles nationally and internationally.
Qualifications:
Doctorate preferred; master's degree required.
Experience as a collegiate ensemble leader
Experienced music educator who maintains an active creative, research, and service agenda at the local, state/regional levels.

The Frost Bands program consists of the following staff: Director of Bands, Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands, Assistant Director of Bands and Athletic Bands, Assistant Director of Programs, Graduate Teaching Assistants and Undergraduate Student workers. The Ensembles consist of: Frost Wind Ensemble, Frost Symphonic Winds, Frost Band of the Hour, Pep Bands for UM Basketball and Volleyball, and University Band. The Band Faculty teach additional courses in graduate and undergraduate conducting, wind literature, marching band methods and techniques, student leadership, marching band arranging and drill design.
