The Opportunity:
The program in Data Analytics and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Washington State University (WSU) invite applications for an Assistant Professor (Teaching), Career track faculty position in Pullman, WA, with a specialty in Data Analytics. This position is a fixed-term, nine-month, three-year appointment with possibility of renewal. We seek applicants who have expertise in Data Science and Analytics with focus in fields related to data such as: data structures, machine learning, data mining, databases, data modeling, data ethics, corporate analytics or other data domain expertise. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and potentially graduate courses for the Data Analytics program, create curriculum innovation, and work with us to continue to develop and expand the Data Analytics program at WSU.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will begin the appointment on August 16, 2025.
The responsibilities will be teaching and programmatic development (80%) and service to the program, department, college, university, community, and profession (20%). The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses within the Data Analytics undergraduate program. In addition, you will work in the programmatic development in Data Analytics including curriculum revision and development, overseeing undergraduate research efforts, and outreach initiatives for the program. Finally, you will be expected to serve on department, college, and university committees and work collaboratively, respectfully, and productively with other faculty, staff, and students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds.
Required Qualifications:
Earned Ph.D. in Data Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Applied or Computational Mathematics, Computer Science or related fields grounded in Data Science or MS in one of the above fields, with industry experience in data science/analytics or teaching experience in one of the fields (mentioned above) of at least 3 years by appointment date.
Demonstrated record of or potential for program and curricular development.
Proven or potential for successful teaching and instruction.
Demonstrated record of or potential for commitment to equitable and inclusive educational experiences as in alignment with WSU's land grant mission

Annual Salary: $60,000-75,000 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Temporary End Date:
This is a temporary position expected to end on May, 15, 2028. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
Background Check: This position has been designated by the department to require a background check because it requires access to children or vulnerable adults as defined by RCW 74.34, engages in law enforcement, requires security clearance, interacts with WSU students in a counseling or advising capacity, has access to personal identifying and/or financial information, unsupervised access to university buildings/property, or other business-related need.
