Major Duties/Responsibilities
Supports the Target and Beam dump group / High Power Targetry Department in the FRIB Accelerator Systems Division
Beam dump
Participate in design of mini-channel and rotating beam dump
Thermal-structural analysis for the mini-channel and rotating beam dump
Participate in thermal tests for mini-channel and rotating beam dump
Target
Participate in design of multi-slice rotating graphite target system
Thermal-structural analysis for the single and multi-slice rotating target system
Support FRIB Operations by maintaining and preparing the target system
Develop advanced materials for beam intercept devices
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of target and beam dump systems in heavy ion accelerator
Ability to perform thermal/mechanical simulations
Ability to design experimental instruments with scientific tools
Ability to perform shift work periodically
Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively and credibly, both verbally and in writing with all audiences

Required Degree
Doctorate
Minimum Requirements
PhD-Physics, nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering or related discipline
Experience of thermal or structural analysis with scientific software (COMSOL multi-physics, ANSYS fluent or OpenFoam)
Desired Qualifications
Experience with software and hardware for instrument design and fabrication
Experience at experimental research projects, data analysis, physics interpretations and reporting of the results
