Job Description
We are currently seeking an outstanding IP Counsel to join our team in Pittsburgh. As an Associate IP Counsel, you will report to the Director of IP and collaborate with R&D partners and other members of the Intellectual Property Department to support our bioproduction business. Your main responsibilities will include handling and developing patent portfolios related to bioproduction processes and equipment, cell and gene therapy, and process control hardware and software.
Key Responsibilities
Support the bioproduction business and manage and develop patent portfolios related to bioproduction processes and equipment, cell and gene therapy, and process control hardware and software.
Participate in the product commercialization process and IP Review Board meetings to identify and protect Company IP.
Conduct freedom to operate analyses in support of new product launches and organic and inorganic commercial initiatives.
Negotiate and support commercial and IP transactions across the bioproduction business.
Provide sound IP and business counseling and implement focused IP strategy in support of business and commercial initiatives and goals.
Take part in yearly IP training and actively contribute towards a work culture that encourages innovation, shares successful approaches, and strives outstanding performance.
Contribute to IP Department Initiatives, share expertise, and foster a collaborative and team-oriented environment.
Actively engage direct reports to build leadership capabilities as Thermo Fisher continues to grow in line with its 2030 Vision.
Required Experience and Skills
To be successful in this role, you should have:
A bachelor's or advanced degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, biology, or related engineering or scientific background.
A J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school.
6+ years of experience handling global patent portfolios related to biotechnology, bioproduction processes, equipment, and process control, or cell biology.
An advanced degree in a science or engineering field, or equivalent experience.
The ability to understand a diverse spectrum of biotechnology, biological processes, bioproduction equipment and instrumentation, cell and gene therapy, cell biology, and process control software and hardware.
Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Licensure to practice law and in good standing in at least one state of the United States of America.
