Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook to join our culinary team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary kitchen environment while preparing delicious meals that cater to the dietary needs of our residents. Your culinary expertise will play a crucial role in enhancing our residents' dining experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Cooking:
Prepare and cook a variety of meals in large quantities, following prepared menus and portion control guidelines.
Accurately prepare special diets and pureed foods as required.
Safety & Sanitation:
Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and cooking areas, adhering to safety and sanitation standards.
Monitor food temperatures and maintain proper quaternary solution levels in sanitizer buckets.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work harmoniously with staff across all departments to ensure smooth meal service.
Assist in serving meals and maintaining a welcoming dining atmosphere.
Report resident care concerns and potential issues to the Administrator and/or Director of Nurses.
Training & Supervision:
Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
Supervise kitchen staff in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor, ensuring all cleaning schedules and procedures are followed.
Presentation:
Strive to make food presentation appealing to residents, enhancing their dining experience.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of one year of cooking experience in a hospital or long-term care facility preferred.
Skills:
Ability to read and follow technical procedures and recipes effectively.
Proficient in applying mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret a variety of instructions.
Certificates & Licenses:
Must obtain and maintain a ServSafe Certificate.
Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred.
Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand and walk frequently; occasional sitting.
Frequently reach, push, and pull; lift up to 50 pounds.
Capable of climbing, balancing, kneeling, and crouching occasionally.
Vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
