The instructional faculty member shall have the primary responsibility of teaching general education LNCN 100 and/or CIVX 300 online, starting Summer 2024. Lincoln 100 and Civics 300 are essential courses within the LMU General Education Curriculum. Both are based in United States history, but with an added emphasis on citizenship and the personal conduct of LMU students and graduates. The Lincoln 100 course equips LMU students with an appreciation for Abraham Lincolns life and legacy that they can apply in their careers and personal lives. Civics 300 stresses the importance of political awareness of current events, the institution of the Constitution and other early historical documents, and also good-faith debate over and scrutiny of controversial issues. Students are sharing thoughts and perspectives on very sensitive topics in online discussion activities in these courses, so close, consistent, and compassionate attention to discussion boards in LNCN 100 and CIVX 300 is of the utmost importance. CIVX 300 also features the General Education Exam as a course requirement. Instructors in this course do not design or administer the exam, but they are required to ensure that students complete all portions of the exam, in coordination with LMU Administrators.
