Who You Are...
Responsible for fulfilling design, engineering, and project management functions in new product development (NPD) and business support projects in the Rail Division.
This Position...
Supports design and development of new products for the railroad industry under the guidance of senior personnel.
Some examples of the work you might do include...
Support design and development new products for the railroad industry under the guidance of senior personnel.
Create and maintain documentation related to new product development (NPD) projects.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, cost estimation, feasibility analysis, running engineering calculations, prototyping, and various other tasks related to product development.
Coordinate NPD activities among suppliers, customers, and product management groups
Create 3D designs and design drawings of products.
Run structural engineering analyses with varying degrees of complexity using hand calculations and finite element modeling.
Research various materials, manufacturing processes, and design concepts for their potential implementation in NPD projects
Work with individuals from other functional areas such as sales, procurement business development, etc., in various phases of product development
Provide timely and frequent written and verbal reporting on NPD activities.
What Do You Need?
Bachelor’s Degree required in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
Master’s Degree in Engineering desired.
0-3 years of experience in a related position.
History of successful involvement in various stages from conception to commercialization in product development is desired.
High level of proficiency in at least of one design software (e.g. Solidworks, OnShape, or AutoCAD Inventor Suite) is required.
Proficiency with ANSYS Structural FEA package for complex engineering problem solving is required.
Knowledge of various manufacturing methods such as casting, forging, rolling, and extrusion of metals as well as injection and transfer molding, thermoforming, and extrusion of engineering plastics and elastomeric materials is highly desired.
The candidate must have good awareness of design for manufacturing concepts.
Good understanding of structural mechanics and dynamics is required.
Ability to produce high quality design and test reports and presentations using MS Office applications is required.
Exposure to mechatronics, mechanical/electrical testing, sensory system design, instrumentation, and data processing highly desired.
Project planning abilities, data analysis, reporting, and strong communication skills are essential.
Travel may be required on occasion up to 20% to vendors and railroads.
Overtime may be necessary as workloads dictate.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds occasionally.
