This position is responsible for the performance of steamfitter tasks listed below at a journeyman level for new, remodel and repair projects for the University. Applicant must be able to interpret piping schematics, blueprints and codes. Applicant to install, service and maintain steam, heating and cooling systems for all types of structures, equipment, accessories and related components in a safe, efficient and knowledgeable manner. Applicant to use and maintain all materials, tools and equipment of the trade in a safe and knowledgeable manner. Employee shift is 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
Experienced welder (consider proficiency test mig and stick vertical up stick and 6G weld on pipe)
Experience with steam systems including servicing traps, valves, steam station (PRV or distribution center)
Ability to braze and solder
Ability to follow power piping code on all steam systems
Preferred
Certified welder
Experience with pneumatic controls
Experience with compressed air systems
Experience with Metal fabrication
Electrical and electronic knowledge
Experience with pump rebuilding and laser alignment
Experience with ultrasound test equipment
Welding experience with stainless and aluminum
Rigging experience with heavy equipment
Experience with steam system startup/shutdown
Special Requirements
Valid Driver's license
Complete a welding proficiency test at the time of the campus interview
Ability to complete Asbestos awareness training
Journeyman steamfitter - Formal recognition by appropriate trade organization of journeyman Steamfitter status in the State of WI

Physical Demands
Must be able to stand for long periods of time, climb ladders, stoop, crouch, climb stairways, crawl, turn, kneel and balance.
Lifting up to 50lb. objects is required
Breathing masks are required to be worn during some construction duties
Working Conditions and Environment
Ability to lift your arms above your head in order to reach high difficult areas.
Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges.
Sufficient manual dexterity with one hand to be able to operate hand and power tools and manually complete paperwork such as recording items on work orders and receiving documents.
Must have sufficient physical flexibility to kneel, squat, stoop, crawl under cabinets and other low spaces in order to perform the tasks required.
Must be able to tolerate working in confined spaces in order to perform maintenance and repair work when necessary.
Employee must be able to work in partially lit spaces, confined spaces, dusty and/or dirty spaces, on raised platforms/ladders and in extreme temperatures
Employee must wear safety toe shoes during entire shift and is responsible to wear additional PPE as determined necessary by employee/supervisor during the course of job duties
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
Facilities Management is comprised of Building Maintenance and Grounds, Custodial Services, Heating Plant, Administration, and Facilities Planning and Engineering. The campus is comprised of 2.4 million square feet on approximately 135 acres including 55 buildings of which 22 are academic/research, 12 support services and 21 for university housing. The campus has its own utilities of steam, chilled water, data and electricity.
