The Telecommunications Engineer/ Senior Telecommunications Engineer will be responsible for system management, engineering, design, administration and maintenance of the University's digital voice, VoIP-UC network communications systems, ensuring consistent, reliable, and uninterrupted service. This is facilitated through multi-million dollar systems that support the needs of university staff and emergency services.
Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to respond to system alarms, perform initial troubleshooting and coordinate timely resolution with appropriate vendor support teams.
Education and Experience (Grade 10)
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of experience with VoIP telephone systems, voice mail systems, access/carrier systems and related power plants, including in-depth working knowledge of VoIP-UC communications networks preferred.
Some experience with vendor management for reviewing quotes, proposals and contracts for accuracy.
Some experience developing project proposals and managing small projects to completion
Some experience working within a change management system to communicate and coordinate changes with others that may impact successful outcomes when performing upgrades or other changes.
Experience in Cisco VoIP-UC networking technology preferred
Familiarity with Cisco IOS, CUBE, Webex calling, Expressway C/E, jabber
Familiarity with linux/shell and virtual machine environments.
VoIP-UC certifications preferred.
Experienced in working with SIP VoIP systems
Experience with troubleshooting VoIP/SIP issues independently and with vendor support
Interpersonal relation and team/group participation skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Some skills working with application data through spreadsheets, databases and import/export tools for populating application data or generating ad hoc reports.
Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.

Minimum of 5 years of experience with VoIP telephone systems, voice mail systems, access/carrier systems, with expert knowledge of VoIP-UC communications networks.
Demonstrated experience with vendor management to maintain relationships, communicate issues and requirements and review quotes, proposals and contracts for accuracy.
Demonstrated experience developing project proposals and independently managing small to medium projects to completion
Experience working within a change management system to communicate and coordinate changes with others that may impact successful outcomes when performing upgrades or other changes.
Providing the Telecommunication team with direction for new technology.
Expert knowledge in Cisco VoIP-UC networking technology preferred
Demonstrated knowledge with linux/shell and virtual machine environments.
VoIP-UC certifications preferred.
Experienced in working with SIP VoIP systems
Demonstrated tier 2 experience with troubleshooting VoIP/SIP complex issues independently and with vendor support
Interpersonal relation and team/group participation skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
