GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing the necessary services to support the Physicians and to keep the facility running smoothly. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Medical Assistant will be an integral clinical team member, working together to provide superior care and service to a panel of Neurosurgery patients.
The Medical Assistant will be expected to have a global view of the day and support the patient, provider, and other members of the Neurosurgery team to provide patients with comprehensive/effective visits and complete the day's tasks as efficiently as possible.
Prinicple Duties and Responsblities
Directs the patient to exam room, obtains and records accurate routine patient vital signs, prepares patient for examination and assists performing procedures, injections and other treatments as ordered by provider.
Assist MA1s with the day-to-day questions and help facilitate their learning by participating in on-boarding training.
Review the medication list with the patient.
Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients.
As instructed, the reason for the patient's visit on the intake form is to be documented directly to the physician.
Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens and prepare them for testing.
Clean, and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
Report any equipment issues that need immediate attention to Ops Manager/Supervisor.
Sets up, cleans, and stocks patient exam rooms.
Check food refrigerator temperature daily, document results on the log, and follow protocol when the temperature is below normal.
Tracks, orders, transports, and maintains supplies.
Performs general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms.
Assist in scheduling appointments.
Assists patient service coordinators with bump/cancellation lists, patient check-in, and confirmation of future appointments.
Assists with arranging ambulance transportation as needed.
Assists patients with ambulation to ensure their comfort and dignity during exams.
Assists with procuring medical records from Health Info. Mgmt. and/or Xray results as needed.
Ensures that health care documents provided by the patients on the day of the appointment are scanned into EPIC.Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
Ensures the environment of care of the practice waiting rooms/exam rooms and overall appearance meet the standards of the joint commission.
Demonstrates a strong sense of shared responsibility to maintain a clean environment by ensuring daily exam rooms are clean and appropriately stocked with supplies.
Demonstrates a strong sense of shared responsibility in maintaining clinical equipment including vital sign machines and equipment on the head wall unit.
Responsible for contacting Bio-Med for any broken machines registered with the Bio-Medical Engineering department.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

EXPERIENCE: Indicate the required and preferred (optional) amount and type of experience.
Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant certification program or 6 months to a year relevant clinical experience in a healthcare setting or currently enrolled in a nursing, allied health or clinical program.
Must be knowledgeable in OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA.
May not currently hold a valid nursing license.
High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
Associate's Degree- Medical Assisting - preferred.
Direct MA experience or medical fieldwork with 0-1 year required.
