CONSTRUCTION SERVICES PRACTICE

Michael Baker International's Construction Services staff supports clients by acting as their trusted on-site agent through all phases of construction, from pre-design to close-out, by providing qualified construction managers, inspectors, constructability reviewers, schedulers, estimators and safety experts. As new technologies evolve throughout the construction industry, innovative ideas are required to maintain and deliver successful construction projects.

DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker is seeking a Construction Associate I for our Alexandria Virginia office. Specific duties may depend on job assignments but will include serving as project/program support for construction projects, coordinating construction inspection activities, working with office staff and field crews engaged in basic technical engineering activities, evaluating contract specifications and plans, executing project paperwork / required documentation, and working with data systems in support of the client(s). Employees in some positions in this classification do not supervise but may serve in a lead role.

Work is performed under the general supervision of a Resident Engineer or Construction Manager with the Construction Services Department. Work conditions vary depending on assignments and are performed in the office and/or in the field with exposure to varying weather conditions, challenging terrain, and requirements for walking, standing, bending, and lifting loads. The position requires hand/eye coordination in the efficient operation of computers and field equipment (survey, testing equipment, etc.). Employees will be based in the Alexandria office but may be asked to travel and be available for work throughout Northern Virginia/DC/Maryland on a sporadic and temporary basis.

Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned to such duties will be required to possess a driver's license valid in the State of Virginia or obtain said license following employment. Applicants may be subject to a background check which may impact employment.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


  • 0-3 years civil engineering / construction experience
  • Four-year degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • Excellent English language skills, written and verbal, are essential to long term success in this role.
  • Ability to aid in basic construction administrative activities, evaluation of construction documents, drawings, maps, basic reports and supporting documentation.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office) and knowledge of scheduling software is preferred.
  • Ability to visit work sites, gather data and report findings to supervisors.
  • To be successful, you'll need to be bright, organized, outward and determined. You will also need to be able to build relationships with a wide variety of people and work in a team environment with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing project obligations.

COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $57,574 - $90,667.20 annually. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
