Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Transportation's (NDOT), Roadway Asset Management section, within the Materials & Research Division, is looking for a dedicated team member who would enjoy the challenge of learning multiple existing roadway inventory processes.
As a Transportation Planner, you will assist in the enhancement of existing roadway inventory methods or explore the development of new methods for roadway inventory, investigate existing data issues and formulate methods for efficient data corrections and gain a working knowledge of key roadway data elements that are essential for the NDOT mission. You will also help a dedicated team in the delivery of quality roadway information to many customers from local government officials to internal NDOT officials, to federal authorities.

Pay range is $23.140 - $34.111 per hour. The pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints if approved.
This position is classified as a Transportation Planner II. If unable to fill at the II level, will consider applicants at the Transportation Planner I level (pay rate for this level of classification is $20.023 per hour).
Job Duties
•Assist in adding and updating inventory data in the Integrated Highway Inventory (IHI) database for roads off the State Highway System.
•Assist in building and maintaining the intersection tables for roads off the State Highway System.
•Assist in gathering and loading field data to be reported to the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS).
•Assist in the preparation and participation in the rural road inventory and GPS centerline surveys of highways and National Functionally Classified roads.
•Assist with the review and adjustments to the Reference Post System for City streets in IHI based on inventory reports and annexations.
•Assist with inspections to confirm data and resolve any discrepancies in inventory data.
•Assist in updating the appropriate databases for use in mapping and lane mile reports.
•Assist profiler operators in the collection and processing of highway condition data, as needed.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Transportation Planner II: Bachelor's degree in urban and regional planning, transportation planning, engineering technology, business, data science, physical sciences, geographic information systems, or a related field plus one year of related experience. Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
Transportation Planner I: Associate's degree in urban and regional planning, transportation planning, engineering technology, business, data science, physical sciences, geographic information systems, or a related field. Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications: Six years of pre-professional engineering experience, three of which are in the field of highway planning, design, construction, or maintenance. Experience working with relational databases and or data entry.
Other: A driver's license or ability to provide independent authorized transportation is required. Regular and reliable attendance is also required.
