Mt. Prospect Baptist Church is seeking a Minister of Music to lead all aspects of our music ministry. The position reports to the Personnel Committee with day-to-day direction from the Senior Pastor. The Minister of Music is responsible for (1) exhorting, uplifting, and encouraging the body of Christ; (2) creating an atmosphere for God to manifest Himself to His people; and (3) preparing hearts for the preached Word of God and drawing sinners to Him by ministering to our congregation and to our community through song and worship. He or she will grow and improve the quality of the overall music ministry, carry out the mission of Sunday morning worship services, and lead the music ministry for special services and events consistent with the overall church vision. Additionally, the incumbent will provide day-to-day direction for the assistant minister of music and musicians.
Specific Responsibilities:
Direct and provide musical accompaniment (written and/or by ear) and/or leadership for all choirs and ensembles which constitute the music ministry of Mt. Prospect Baptist Church.
Hold regular rehearsals for each choir at predetermined times. Such rehearsals shall be held prior to the Sunday when the choir or ensemble is scheduled to sing for worship service and should occur twice a week for a minimum of one (1) hour each session.
Prepare, direct, and play seasonally appropriate music, including both traditional and contemporary selections for Sunday morning worship service.
Direct and provide music for special services as needed including (a) funeral of Church members or related family members; (b) Vacation Bible School, (c) Church revivals; (d) Watch Night Services; (e) Juneteenth Celebration; (f) anniversary programs; (g) Church choir visitations; and h.) similar events
Assist in securing a replacement musician when unable to attend services.
Foster relationships with local churches and college choirs.
Actively recruit and encourage other members to participate in the Church choirs.
Be a good ambassador for the Church on Sundays as well as at other times.
Conduct him or herself and behave in such a way as to reflect Christian virtues.
Assume responsibility for all music selections, budget preparation and submittals in the Church.
Teach and grow musical capabilities of Church choirs and overall music ministry.
Work in harmony with the Senior Pastor on the vision and growth of the Music Ministry.
Qualifications:
General Responsibilities/Requirements
Must be faithful in prayer and have a deep passion for Christian worship
Must demonstrate integrity in all aspects of life including academic, intellectual, spiritual, moral and financial
Self-motivated leader with the ability to multi-task with ease
Strong interpersonal and relational skills
Adaptability and flexibility
Provide workshops, continual education, and training for choir members to enhance individual and overall ministry performance
Must possess strong communication skills to work equally well with the various age groups involved with our music program
Education & Experience
Experience leading music ministry
Experience with organizing community outreach and community musical events
Experience with playing a Hammond organ, piano, and keyboard
Experience in church ministry leadership and strategic worship planning required
Possess the ability to sight read and play by ear
Ability to teach music parts and develop new voices and new song leaders
Formal music education (preferred but not required)

Attendance Policy
Employee will provide two weeks’ notice to Chairperson of the Personnel Committee prior to absence from rehearsals or worship services
Employee will ensure all areas of responsibility are covered prior to absence and before absence is approved.
Employee will attend scheduled rehearsals, meetings, pertinent to the functioning of the Mt. Prospect Music Ministry
Salary
Commensurate with experience and church budget.
