Description
Responsible for oversight of Elliott Student Union’s (ESU) bowling facility and all ESU programs/events, to include fiscal and staffing management, plus food and beverage services (in conjunction with Sodexo), in order to facilitate the fulfillment of the ESU’s mission, vision and goals. The Union Bowling Center (UBC) serves as a valued source of recreation for UCM students, faculty, staff and the community. This position is responsible for ensuring a quality customer-centric experience and enhancing department profitability.
Examples of Duties
40% Management of the Union Bowling Center to include:
Promotes an exceptional customer service experience for all bowling center patrons by addressing customer issues, needs, and feedback.
Provides advice on renovations, improvements, minor and major construction.
Oversees bowling media exposure and marketing plan implementation in collaboration with the Union Marketing & Communication Manager. Actively promotes and markets the UBC through specials, cross promotions, incentive programs, etc. to ensure maximum participation.
Responsible for management and maintenance of the Union Bowling Center website.
Establishes, reviews, and evaluates food service, purchase of supplies, equipment and resale merchandise.
Formulates and implements higher level directives to ensure high performance standards.
Ensures fiscal responsibility and accountability through coordination, preparation, and management of annual unit budget in partnership with the Union Business Operations Manager.
Establishes financial goals commensurate with market analysis of area or region. Prepares budget, analyzes financial results and maintains solid financial condition of the center. Responsible for development and implementation of the Union Bowling Center business plan services.
Ensures appropriate bowling equipment and supplies are on hand and secured.
Maintains appropriate inventory control procedures for concessions and pro-shop.
Oversees POS operations and establishes procedures to ensure the accuracy of transactions and accountability of funds.
Responsible for the overall technical integrity of the UBC and all its equipment.
Oversees the operation of the Pro-Shop services and snack bar.
30% Supervisory/Administrative duties to include:
Responsible for work-force management, recruitment, training and evaluation of bowling center and ESU events personnel in accordance with policies and regulation.
Oversees preparation, distribution, and revision of employee work schedules.
Supervises and directs regular training for all staff members to ensure their proficiency in guest service, loss prevention, and adherence to safety and operation standards.
Dedication to providing exceptional customer service that fosters positive interactions which cultivates an exceptional team environment.
Develops and implements audit routines to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements. Communicate issues /problems to the Director.
Plans and implements future staffing needs.
25% Programs, events, and services to include:
Plans, implements and evaluates ESU programs and events, including but not limited to: Cinema, Retention, Engagement, Academic and Special Events.
Manages the promotion, organization, and scheduling of UBC programming including open and league bowling, tournaments, special programs and events.
Oversees scheduling of UCM bowling classes.
Works in cooperation with UCM bowling coach in scheduling Jennie's bowling team practices and competitions.
Interacts with other staff members, representatives of UCM, student organizations, vendors, local community and other departments to develop quality programs and events.
5% Professional development to include:-
Remain current and competent by developing professional contact with colleagues and seeking out professional development opportunities, including conferences and training opportunities.
Keep current on industry trends, technology changes, and innovation by researching best practices, innovative ideas and marketing of bowling and recreation centers and campus activities/events.
Carry out necessary liaison with other UCM and community officials that support the UBC activities.
Typical Qualifications
Education:
Bachelors’ degree in business management, recreation or related field.
Education may be substituted for experience or experience may be substituted for education based on the following equivalencies: AA = 2 years; BA/BS = 4 years; MA/MS = 6 years; PhD = 8 years.
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in a service oriented job and/or Recreation Center required.
Two (2) years of supervisor experience required.
