The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $76,186 to $95,233
The Safety Specialist is a vital role supporting our safety, health, environmental, and quality team (SHEQ) to ensure a safe working environment for workers across all Avangrid's NY service territory.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supporting team members in establishing, administering, and monitoring company-wide standards, procedures, and performance, minimizing risk and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety areas as it relates to Avangrid standards and regulatory/legal requirements. Specialization and focus on environmental, occupational health, safety, and quality with the ability to provide technical expertise for the mitigation of hazards, prevention of injuries, program development, and tracking of key performance indicators are critical aspects of the position.
Key Responsibilities
Manage coordination and documentation of site safety and audits on a regular basis.
Manage and facilitate safety and environmental orientations for new employees and contractors.
Review job specific environmental, health and safety plans and ensure compliance of accepted plans.
Track and analyze safety performance indicators to propose enhancements and best practices to management for increased improvements where applicable.
Identify potentially hazardous conditions and support contractors to develop actions for mitigation.
Support post-incident response procedure for assigned projects ensuring employees and contractors receive appropriate treatment when injured, evidence is secured for investigation, interviews are conducted, post-incident data is collected, final reports are prepared, and lessons learned/preventive actions communicated.
Manage oversight of routine site observations ensuring safety and environmental compliance is within federal, state, local, and company requirements. Support in the development of appropriate corrective actions if deemed necessary.
Build and maintain a safe work culture and support the safe behavior of company employees and contractors.
Manage developing initiatives as they evolve.
Develop and present safety and environmental education material.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on safety and environmental related initiatives.
Participate in career development opportunities and trainings.
Required Qualifications
Ability to walk several miles across hills and uneven terrain.
Ability to regularly travel to job sites.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and means of transportation.
Three to five years' experience in electrical construction.
Three to five years' utility safety experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years relevant experience preferred; or,
Ten years of relevant experience in substitution of a degree.
OSHA certifications such as Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) OSHA 30, OSHA 40.
Knowledge of ISO 45001, 9001 and 14001 standards.
