Our client in Newburyport Ma is looking for an Accounting Assistant to join their team.
Job Summary: As an Accounting Assistant you'll play a key role in managing the accounts payable processes (60% of your time) across multiple divisions, while also assisting with general accounting tasks (40%) to support the smooth operations of our finance department. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, you'll ensure accurate and efficient processing of vendor invoices, maintenance of vendor records, and month-end close activities. Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable (60%)
Process all aspects of accounts payable for multiple divisions.
Match invoices to purchase orders, receiving documents, and obtain required managerial approvals.
Audit invoices for accuracy in quantity, pricing, and support; resolve discrepancies.
Calculate and post corporate allocations for centralized billing and print posting journals for internal controls.
Process weekly vendor check runs and maintain accurate vendor records, including eligibility for discounts and payment addresses.
Serve as a help desk for accounts payable inquiries across divisions and work to resolve vendor issues promptly.
General Accounting Support (40%)
Assist in month-end close processes, including reconciliations and variance analysis.
Support the General Accounting department with schedule preparation and accounting issue research.
Assist with fixed asset accounting and provide support in managing insurance programs with the Controller.
Perform additional department duties as needed.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma required; Associate's degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
3-5 years of accounts payable experience, preferably in a multi-division environment.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with accounting software required.
Experience with Epicor ERP systems is a plus.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
