The Fire Sprinkler Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and functionality of fire sprinkler systems in various settings, such as commercial buildings, residential complexes, and industrial facilities. This position involves inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing fire sprinkler systems to ensure they operate effectively in case of fire emergencies.
Essential functions
Inspection and Testing:
Conduct routine inspections of fire sprinkler systems to ensure compliance with industry codes and standards (e.g., NFPA).
Perform functional tests of sprinkler heads, alarms, pumps, and other system components to verify proper operation.
Maintenance and Repairs:
Maintain and repair fire sprinkler system components, including pipes, valves, fittings, and control panels.
Replace faulty or damaged sprinkler heads, pipes, and related equipment as needed.
Ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out safely and efficiently.
Documentation:
Maintain detailed records of inspection, testing, and maintenance activities.
Generate inspection reports and provide documentation to clients and regulatory authorities as required.
Troubleshooting:
Identify and diagnose problems or malfunctions in fire sprinkler systems.
Develop and implement effective solutions to resolve issues promptly.
Compliance and Regulations:
Stay up-to-date with local, state, and national fire safety codes and regulations.
Ensure that fire sprinkler systems remain in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Emergency Response:
Be on-call for emergency situations and respond quickly to address system failures or alarms.
Coordinate with emergency services and authorities as needed during fire incidents.
Training and Education:
Provide guidance and training to building occupants on fire safety procedures and the proper use of fire sprinkler systems.
Inventory Management:
Maintain an inventory of necessary replacement parts and equipment to ensure timely repairs and replacements.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or relevant experience in fire sprinkler maintenance.
Knowledge of fire sprinkler system components, installation, and maintenance techniques.
Familiarity with relevant codes and standards
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work under pressure during emergencies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients and team members.
Physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces as necessary.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (may be required for on-site visits).
Working conditions (travel, hours, environment)
Able to work full-time, with some weekend work.
Travel required (40%).
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
