The Public and Middle Markets Manager is responsible for providing clients with guidance on the tax implications of their business goals, assessing significant transactions and their impact on the company’s operations and financial statements, as well as identifying various approaches to ensure adherence to tax regulations. Acting as a point of contact for clients on complex tax matters, the manager applies their expertise to identify potential tax issues, highlight risks, and stay informed about changes in tax policies to assist the client with meeting its tax and financial reporting needs. Additionally, the role involves networking and business development within a specific area of expertise.
Essential functions
Research
Assists the firms Comprehensive Tax Solutions team with review of tax implications and offers clients alternative courses of action
Identifies and leverages lessons learned on prior projects, and offers input on how to improve processes and methods
Assist Assurance and Advisory teams with research of technical tax matters and their impact on client’s financial statements (business combination, etc.)
ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals
Consistently and proactively adheres to Firm policies, and standards in relation to FAS 109 and FIN 48.
Effectively applies ASC 740-10 along with Firm policies, and standards in a proactive manner.
Clearly explains and discusses the components of the income tax provision, uncertain tax positions, and other complexities related to ASC 740-10 with clients.
Collaborates with Assurance teams to ensure timely planning of tax accrual reviews, covering aspects such as budget, scope, and delivery deadlines.
Tax Consulting
Assists the Comprehensive Tax Solutions team with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients' current and future taxes
Serves as a technical resource
Frames projects and issues for effective delegation to seniors and associates
Tax Specialization
Acquires a comprehensive understanding of the technical and practical aspects of one or more tax areas, such as corporate, property, pass-through, state and local, credits and incentives, compensation and benefits, accounting methods, or R&D tax benefits.
May be tasked with assisting internal Continuing Professional Education (CPE) sessions in their area of expertise, collaborating with firm specialists.
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervises senior associates and supervisors on all projects
Reviews work prepared by supervisors and provide review comments
Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates
Required education and experience
Bachelors degree, required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, preferred
Masters in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred
Five (5) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, required
Prior supervisory experience, required
Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty, preferred
License / Certifications
Required: CPA certification
Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role, preferred
Software
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, preferred
Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software, preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Superior verbal and written communication skills
Ability to effectively delegate work as needed
Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skills
Capacity to work well in a team environment
Capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals
Ability to compose written tax advice
Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships
Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients
Work environment
This position is in office, with occasional travel to meet organizational and client needs. Candidates need to be in Central or Eastern Time Zones to be considered. Ideal candidates will be located within: Mississippi, Louisiana, or Tennessee.

Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
