JOB SUMMARY:



The Vascular Access Specialist serves as a role model, consultant, change agent, and facilitator. Focuses on assessment, planning, implementation, education, and evaluation of the delivery of IV Therapy. Serves as a liaison for the physician, nursing staff, and ancillary departments, as well as external agencies for IV Therapy. Supports the System and Nursing Strategic Plans. Supports System and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based Care, and Shared Leadership.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:



  • Functions as consultant to staff for patients receiving IV Therapy throughout the hospital and works in collaboration with the Clinical Practice Specialists to assess educational needs of staff related to IV Therapy.

  • Assists in educational and training programs for Nursing Services personnel, students, patients and their families, on IV equipment and products and best practices.

  • Triages and assesses patients for appropriate use of Vascular Access devices.

  • Inserts ultrasound guided PIVs, PICCs and Midline catheters.

  • Serves as a member of emergency response team by providing IV access to patients requiring urgent assistance.

  • Maintains an attitude of cooperation and flexibility and assists staff members to do the same in order to promote interdepartmental relations and customer satisfaction.

  • Serves as coach and mentor for less experienced colleagues.

  • Offers consistent and visible support to team members.

  • Seeks and supports opportunities for professional growth and development.


SHIFT SUMMARY



This 0.9 FTE position is for 3- 12 hour shifts rotating days and nights. Staff work every fourth weekend.

Work Schedule: Rotating, 7a-7p & 7p-7a



Qualifications

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.

  • More than 12 months nursing experience with solid knowledge and clinical skills.

  • Current AHA BLS certification required.

  • Vascular Access Board Certification (VA-BC) preferred but not required.

Compensation:

Pay Range: $35.19-$60.56
