The Registered Nurse (RN) at RiverValley Behavioral Health Children's Hospital is responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate care to children and adolescents receiving mental health services. This role involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety, well-being, and effective treatment of our young patients. The RN will play a critical role in delivering patient-centered care, performing assessments, administering medications, and developing individualized care plans tailored to the unique needs of each patient.
Essential Duties:
Patient Care: Deliver direct nursing care to children and adolescents, including conducting thorough assessments, monitoring vital signs, and evaluating patient progress.
Treatment Planning: Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans for each patient.
Medication Administration: Safely administer prescribed medications, monitor for side effects, and educate patients and their families on medication management.
Crisis Intervention: Respond promptly to any medical or psychiatric emergencies, providing appropriate interventions and support to stabilize patients.
Patient Education: Provide education to patients and their families about their condition, treatment plan, and any necessary lifestyle adjustments to support recovery and well-being.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely medical records, including patient assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes, in compliance with all regulatory and organizational standards.
Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and ensure that the care environment is safe and conducive to healing. Stay up to date with best practices, including infection control and patient safety standards.
Professional Development: Participate in ongoing education and training opportunities to stay current with advances in pediatric mental health nursing.
Qualifications:
Education: Associate or bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution. BSN preferred.
Licensure: Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kentucky.
Experience: Previous experience in pediatric or adolescent mental health nursing is strongly preferred. Experience in a hospital or inpatient setting is a plus.
Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required. PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification preferred.
Skills: Strong clinical assessment skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and a compassionate approach to patient care. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
