The Role:


The Cheeseman lab is looking for a postdoctoral scientist to work on a well-funded project combining malaria parasite genetic crosses with single cell RNAseq and anti-malarial drug treatment. We are looking for a candidate with strong bioinformatic skills and training in genetics/evolution, as the position will be heavily computational. Prior experience in malaria or infectious disease research is not required, and training for any of the laboratory approaches which will be the main focus of this work will be provided.

For the funded project we have key collaborators within the Institute (the Anderson lab), and to the Kappe and Vaughan labs at Seattle Children's Hospital and Ferdig lab at the University of Notre Dame. A successful candidate would be expected to work closely with these and other collaborators. There would be additional opportunities within the lab for training and pursuing additional projects.


Primary Role:

  • Conducts scientific research
  • Prepares or assist in preparation of material for publication.
  • Prepares or assist in the preparation of grant and contract applications.
  • Participates and presents research in seminars and scientific meetings appropriate to field of interest.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • A highly motivated individual with a Doctoral Degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., or equivalent) from an accredited college or university.
  • Training in bioinformatics, genetics or evolution
