Summary and Job Scope:
This position performs the duties of the Maintenance Technician and accepts several additional responsibilities including training, mentoring, and motivating other mechanics. This position is a journey-level mechanical maintenance position and is responsible for the completion of assigned tasks. Incumbents are expected to perform a variety of maintenance, repair and construction functions with minimum instruction and/or supervision. Incumbents provide on-the-job orientation and training to new operators and mechanics to assist in the completion of assigned functions, tasks and duties.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Ensure Safety
Visually inspect machines, equipment, and verbal descriptions by Operators to locate causes of malfunctions.
Install and/or assemble machinery and equipment according to blueprints and other drawings.
Remove and replace malfunctioning motors and pumps and realign and adjust such components.
Perform operations on machines shop equipment such as grinders, ban saws, cut off saws, drill press, etc.
Perform work in all areas of the plant using the appropriate personal protective equipment.
Conduct plant inspections and perform preventative maintenance.
Maintain established housekeeping standards are at all.
Performs diagnostic, and trouble shooting.
Electrical
Maintain all electrical components at company locations including plants, scale houses and mechanic shop.
Follow directions of supervisor as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
Perform general labor duties when necessary.
Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The role has minimal supervision and operates in the absence of specific instructions.
Has ability to acquire materials as needed as long as they follow Purchasing Program Processes, which include Material Request submitted.
Has ability to take out of service any equipment that is Unsafe, has adverse impact to environment or health and safety of others, or that will cause extreme cost if not addressed.
Is accountable to the Project Manager for assigned Division that all staff is following all rules and regulations to provide maximum uptime and safe equipment.
Has ability to issue Work Orders and Instructions in the absence of the Field Maintenance Supervisor and communicate them when Supervisor is available.
Job Knowledge:
Skill in operation of tools and equipment.
Gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
Examine work pieces for defects and analyze projects to ensure conformance with specifications.
Examines for Safety and Environmental Compliance
Has ability and training to seek advice before assuming direction of repairs. Use initiative and exercise sound independent judgment.
Accept the input of supervisors and co-workers as well as provide input and be a genuine team player.
Is a liaison between Maintenance and Operations to assure consistent and accurate communication.
Qualifications
A review of the essential job functions and physical requirements of this position (complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990) has been made. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, the minimum knowledge, skills and abilities are listed below:
Thorough knowledge of preventative maintenance inspections on r/m and block plants.
Ability to diagnose, repair, install Command batch panel components.
Knowledge of equipment hydraulic systems and components.
Knowledge of equipment electrical systems and components.
Knowledge of engine / motor repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of welding and light fabrication
Ability to operate heavy construction equipment - loader, backhoe, manlift
Crane operator certification is highly desirable.
Education/Experience
High School diploma or GED. 7+ years maintenance experience in heavy equipment.
Language Skills:
Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Work Requirements
Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, criminal background check and driving record review.
Must be willing to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.
Must be legally authorized to work in The United States.
Must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety.
Regular and timely attendance is required.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. Vehicle will travel on uneven terrain and may be bouncy. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Must comply with all work rules, including those that pertain to safety and health.
Special Needs:
Must be able to utilize personal protective equipment, hard hats, appropriate foot protection, back support belts, gloves, respirators, both disposable and air fed.
Travel Requirements:
Travel may be required if a truck breaks down, or to pick up a part; usually local.
