Job Summary
This position involves supervising the daily operations of the Instructional Computing Services (ICS) computer labs and overseeing 40 - 50 student employees. Key responsibilities include recruiting, training, and managing students to provide technical support and assistance to our lab users. Additionally, the role encompasses developing and implementing IT processes and policies to enhance operational efficiency.
Duties & Responsibilities
Manage and support all student workforce operations, including IT troubleshooting, timely issue resolution, and technical guidance.
Handle recruitment, hiring, training, and management of student employees.
Develop and implement policies and training materials.
Approve and audit payroll.
Manage shift scheduling for support coverage.
Facilitate and schedule technology orientations and training sessions.
Collaborate with IT staff to develop and maintain user guides, training materials, and support documentation.
Train student employees on lab software and lab facilities.
Provide support and training for instructors in IT-enhanced classrooms.
Research and recommend system tools for lab operations.
Working knowledge of lab/classroom technical capabilities for reservations.
Facilities Management
Coordinate and manage computer lab reservations.
Handle billing for non-academic reservations.
Collaborate with Technology Services Communications Office to maintain up-to-date lab and reservation web content.
Maintain inventory control, ensuring timely ordering and restocking of lab equipment and supplies.
Collaborate with Facilities & Services (F&S) and the Technology Services Facilities Manager for lab access, maintenance, and improvements.
Other
Ensure a high standard of customer service.
Resolve customer satisfaction issues in a timely and professional manner.
Occasionally work non-traditional hours or respond to on-call requests to ensure service availability, when necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Any one or any combination totaling 5 years (60 months) from the following categories:
College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT Systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
Work experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field, which includes supervisory or lead worker capacity.
Preferred Qualifications
Customer service experience.
Knowledge of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign student employment policies
Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
Ability to think analytically to identify root problems and corresponding solutions.
Experience working in higher education.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the systems and operations used within the areas and departments of responsibility. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to oversee and coordinate activities of assigned staff. Ability to effectively communicate with other colleagues, supervisors, administrative staff, and other campus/agency units. Ability to identify and resolve technical and personnel problems. Ability to effectively communicate and professionally interact with all staff levels.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5030 - Information Technology Manager/Administrative Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $68,000.00 to $75,000.00. Salary is commensurate with experience.
