An exciting career opportunity is open with Caterpillar Resource Industries Group in Hauling Products Performance and Controls Team to support Large Mining Truck product development.
You will be responsible for leading engineering activities to ensure machine performance meets customer requirements, critically evaluate strategic concepts for future products, mentor and coach junior performance engineers, work with dealers and customers to resolve machine performance and controls issues.
What you will do:
Lead Machine Performance and Controls development for Large Mining Truck (LMT) machine NPI programs working with various teams across Caterpillar. The focus for the near future will be on Diesel Electric NPI programs.
Perform expert evaluations of concepts to understand machine performance, Total Cost of Ownership, and Cost/ton tradeoffs for multiple customer sites and drive decision-making on final configuration(s) selection.
Perform (or drive) complex simulations (using Caterpillar Dynasty tool) to provide detailed requirements for sub-system development (Powertrain, Hydraulics, Engine Installation and Cooling, etc.).
Support/guide development of controls requirements to optimize the machine performance for various customer segments and operating conditions. Oversee development and validation plans of the same to ensure highest quality control software development employing Virtual Product Development, Software in the Loop, and Hardware in the Loop processes.
Participate in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Validation workshops for the machine NPI programs.
Lead validation of machine performance at proving grounds and customer sites.
Develop machine field risk mitigation/monitoring plans for pilot machines.
Publish machine performance data for internal and external use.
Initiate and support New Technology Introduction (NTI) programs that impact the products short and long-term strategies.
What Skills you will have:
Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
Performance and controls experience.
Machine, engine, powertrain or electronics system performance/integration experience.
Experience with controls systems and software development and use of Matlab, Simulink, etc.
Hands-on machine testing experience collecting and analyzing data.
Process Management: Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes. Prior experience leading cross-functional teams in matrix organization
Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability.
Effective Communications: Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in a workgroup, as well as employees in other business units, customers, and suppliers. Demonstrated record of being a self-starter with strong technical leadership and presentation skills.
Problem-Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational, or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem-solving appropriately to diverse situations.
Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized simulation/analysis programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate, and test product design drafts.
Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent education.
Top Candidates will also have:
Master's or Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, Analytics or related fields.
Knowledge of competitive machines in the mining industry.
Knowledge of full machine performance simulations.
Knowledge of the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process, NPI. process, and 6 Sigma methodologies.
Knowledge of programming languages (Python, C++, etc.).
