Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Faculty Coordinator position will play a pivotal role in leading all aspects of manufacturing academic programs within our institution and will involve significant teaching responsibilities for courses within a manufacturing discipline. This position requires a blend of instructional excellence, educational leadership, industry knowledge, operational management, and strategic vision to ensure our programs are aligned with industry standards, meet academic quality benchmarks, and prepare students for successful careers in the manufacturing industry.
This role offers a unique opportunity to lead and innovate in academic manufacturing programs, influencing both educational outcomes and industry advancements. This position requires a blend of strategic foresight, operational expertise, and a passion for teaching and supporting students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach and facilitate learning, includes duties associated with: • teaching courses within discipline • curriculum and program review and development advising and mentoring students.\
Administration and supervision of manufacturing programs, includes duties associated with: • supervision of faculty and staff • budgeting and grant development • committee work • industry engagement and recruiting • numerous other institutional responsibilities as assigned
Typical duties of this position are listed below.
Program Leadership and Management: • Develop, implement, and oversee the academic manufacturing programs, including certificate, associate's degree, and contract/non-credit training levels. • Ensure programs meet accreditation standards and regulatory requirements. • Continuously evaluate and update programs and curriculum to reflect industry trends, technological advancements, and academic best practices. Annual program review is a standard practice at this institution. • Collaborate with faculty to maintain high academic standards and foster an environment of innovation and excellence. • Set goals and objectives in alignment with overall organizational strategy.
Industry Engagement: • Build and maintain partnerships with industry counterparts, manufacturing firms, and professional organizations. • Foster collaborations for internships and employment opportunities for students. • Stay informed about industry needs and workforce demands to tailor programs and training opportunities accordingly.
Student Success and Support: • Deliver high-quality instruction in manufacturing technology topics such as additive manufacturing, 3D printing and design, materials testing, automated manufacturing, reverse engineering, prototyping processes, manufacturing quality control, computer aided machining, composite design and fabrication, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. • Design course materials, lectures, assignments, and assessments that engage students and promote active learning. • Develop and revise curriculum for courses, ensuring alignment with industry standards and educational goals (imbedded withing the institutional annual program review process). • Integrate emerging educational and manufacturing technologies into the curriculum. • Prepare and implement lesson plans and activities, adjusting instruction to accommodate different student needs and remote delivery, when needed. • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation, critical thinking, and skill development. • Monitor and enhance student outcomes, including retention rates, graduation rates, and job placement rates. • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students interested in manufacturing careers. • Develop initiatives to welcome and support all learners within the programs. • Contribute to departmental and institutional initiatives through committee work, curriculum review, accreditation processes, and other academic responsibilities.
Budget and Resource Management: • Manage the budgets, ensuring financial resources are allocated efficiently. • Identify and pursue external funding opportunities, grants, and donations to support program growth and initiatives.
Marketing, Recruitment, Networking & Outreach: • Collaborate with marketing and admissions teams to promote manufacturing programs and recruit prospective students and industry partners. • Represent the institution at conferences, seminars, and industry events to enhance visibility and reputation. • Participate in outreach activities, recruitment events, and student organizations to promote manufacturing programs.
Continuous Improvement and Assessment: • Implement assessment tools to measure program and course effectiveness and student learning outcomes. • Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement initiatives. • Pursue professional development opportunities to enhance teaching effectiveness and stay current in the field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Strong understanding of industry standards, technological advancements, and workforce trends in manufacturing. • Excellent communication, leadership, networking, and interpersonal skills. • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, industry partners, and stakeholders. • Experience in budget management, strategic planning, and project management. • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans. • Passion for student engagement and learning. • Skilled in the operation and maintenance of most all of the following types of standard manufacturing equipment:
o CNC and manual mills and lathes, with capabilities up to 5-axis and live tooling (Okuma and Haas are used currently)
o Standard measuring and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing tools and machines. Sheridan College currently utilizes Zeiss GD&T and Mitutoyo Optical Comparator.
o Computers for communicating information, project management, and design
o Standard 3D CAD and CAM software (Sheridan College currently utilizes Fusion 360).
o Numerous 3D printers using a variety of filaments including fiber-reinforced composites, plastics, metals, resins, powders, ceramics, and other materials.
o Standard cutting and grinding tools and computerized and laser cutters and routers, some with multiple-axis capabilities.
o Standard portable welding equipment.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Work Schedule: • Must be available to teach, attend meetings, and oversee course/training schedules, typically requiring some evenings and/or weekends as scheduled. • Some travel will be required
Work Environment: • Work will primarily be in classrooms and laboratories equipped with advanced manufacturing equipment. • May need to operate tools and materials handling equipment. • May work in environments with moderate or loud noise.
Physical Requirements: • Requires standing for several hours at a time and frequent bending and twisting motions. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds. • Vision: Close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus • Must be able to lift 60 pounds and stand for long periods of time. • Must possess physical ability to perform the typical duties of a fabricator: kneeling, crouching, stooping, bending, and twisting.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility includes:
Faculty Coordinator will be assigned to manage projects, people and programs.
Supervision and management manufacturing related educational programs, teaching professionals, and facilities, to include, but is not limited to the following programs: • Advanced Manufacturing • Composites • Machine Tool • Welding
Minimum Qualifications including education, experience, required licensures, certifications, and registrations: • Associates degree (or higher degree) in Manufacturing related field (preferred). • Minimum of 6 years of proven industry experience within manufacturing, or related fields. • Preference will be given to applicants with teaching and industry experience.
