Job Description:

Patient Account Manager- Central Billing Office


Position Information: Manages the daily operations in coding, claims processing, and hospital patient demographics. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills to manage teams, resolve claim processing issues, work cross-departmentally and support compliance with healthcare regulations. Works with and under the direction of the Patient Accounts Director in the development and implementation of strategies to improve billing processes and claim submission accuracy. Responsible for developing policy and procedures to improve overall department performance.


Essential Duties:




  • Develops policies and procedures, communicates, with other department personnel, and provides documentation.

  • Oversees, monitors and directs personnel work techniques related to claim processing and denial management.

  • Assist the Patient Accounts Director coordinating efforts within the Central Billing Office to ensure efficient revenue cycle management.

  • Maintains adequate staffing level, hires, trains, conducts performance appraisals, annual staff evaluations, disciplines, and terminates staff this includes discipline and counseling as needed.

  • Ensures staff promotes positive image of the department.

  • Monitors the performance of all assigned subordinate staff members i.e. coding, insurance follow up, hospital demographics staff, etc

  • Communicates with staff, directors, physicians, and other departments.

  • Acts as the liaison between the billing section and upper management keeping them abreast of the performance of the staff and any billing issues.

  • Provides documentation of all procedures.

  • Monitors dashboard key performance indicators to identify trends and areas of improvement.

  • Handles all but the most serious disputes and difficult situations. Discusses these issues with management.

  • Ensure HIPAA, billing and compliance regulations are followed as set by policy.

  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Qualifications:


Required Education: Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or closely related field, AND: 



  • 60 months experience in medical billing, healthcare insurance, or closely related experience.


Equivalency/Substitution: Experience or a combination of education & related experience can be considered in lieu of degree. A one-to-one ratio is used to determine the number of years of experience required in place of a degree. 


Working Conditions:




  • Physical: Sitting for prolonged periods. Communicates effectively and listens. Use of computer and telephone.


  • Environmental: Standard Office Environment.


Certifications or Licenses:




  • Preferred: Certified Professional Coder


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:




  • Knowledge of patient account billing practices.

  • Direct experience in physician billing, denial resolution, or claim/account auditing

  • Ability to manage and train staff

  • Knowledge of Medicare, Oklahoma Medicaid and commercial carrier billing. 

  • Working knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Advance knowledge of medical billing and coding.

  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.

  • Highly organized and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Ability to communicate well and build rapport with students, faculty and staff.

  • Ability to produce reports and complete work within deadlines.

  • Strong initiative to solve problems.
