Job Description:

Why Hearst Magazines?

With sophisticated content creation, cutting-edge technology and industry-leading data capabilities, we make media and products that move people across all platforms.

We are a global media company that publishes nearly 260 magazine editions and 200 websites around the world and, together, we are reinventing publishing for the 21st century.

Your impact:

Hearst's Enthusiast Group is looking for an Editor for the Content Hype team to ideate, create, edit, package, and distribute material that boosts the performance, reach, and awareness of content previously produced by the staff of the Enthusiast Group, which includes Runner's World, Bicycling, Popular Mechanics, Best Products, and Biography.com. The ideal candidate has experience in writing and editing for niche, member-focused audiences; fluency in data-driven projects; and a background in or affinity for both editorial work and content marketing.

Examples include projects such “How to Master the Marathon” from Runner’s World, “How to Master the Century,” from Bicycling, Train with Runner’s World+, and individual service, news, review, and feature stories that show strong potential for high performance in metrics such as membership conversion and retention, and affiliate commerce.

The ideal candidate is a deeply engaged, efficient but accurate editor and creative thinker and collaborator who can adeptly move from project to project. You can craft headlines and other display copy, captions, text, and the packaging of all those elements in a way that excites and compels people to engage with our brands in deeply satisfying, authentic ways that drive specific actions such a signing up to be a member, signing up to participate in one our member programs, or buying a product we recommend. Your enemies are passive consumption, and skim-and-scroll behavior. You are highly collaborative, relish iterative processes that help us continually sharpen our focus on high-performing approaches and reject the underperforming ones (even when they’re your favorites). You are excellent at translating signals from data into engaging content.

Our brands are the authorities in a number of key categories (training, health/wellness, racing, injury prevention, DIY, space exploration, etc.), so a genuine interest in our coverage areas is a must. This role reports directly to the Director of Content Hype.
