JOB DETAILS:

The School of Art & Design at the University of Wisconsin-Stout invites applications for a Lecturer position in Constructed Perspective Drawing and Design Theory and Methods, commencing August 2025. This is a 9-month instructional academic staff position with intent to renew.

The successful candidate will bring their expertise to teaching undergraduate studio courses: DES-205 Design Drawing and Concept Visualization, a perspective-heavy course in one- and two-point perspective as well as industry-focused design sketching and DES-200 Design Theory and Methods, a study and application of processes, techniques and concepts used by designers to arrive at innovative and successful design solutions. This position will support and facilitate student learning in alignment with UW-Stout's polytechnic tenets of applied learning and research, business and industry partnerships, career-focused education. These courses serve second-year students in various BFA degree programs including Interior Design, Industrial and Product Design, and Game Design and Development - Art.

This is a full-time teaching role. Office space, a laptop computer, class resources and mentorship from area faculty will be provided. UW-Stout's School of Art & Design is NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design) accredited. Course delivery is in-person and in accordance with NASAD standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum/Required

• Bachelor's degree plus five years professional experience relevant to the content being taught.
• Proficiency in design drawing techniques, with emphasis on constructed perspective drawing.
• Proficiency in quick ideation hand sketching with emphasis on the design of space and objects.
• Experience in design thinking processes, techniques, concepts, and theory.
• Experience in a design-focused discipline, including but not limited to one or more of the following:
  Industrial Design
  Interior Design
  Architecture
  Drafting
  Technical Drawing
  Game Design
  Concept Art
  Graphic Design

Highly Desired/Preferred

• Master's degree or higher, in related field.
• Previous experience in teaching, coaching, or mentoring; ideally of junior designers.
• Previous experience in university-level teaching; experience with learning management tools (Canvas, etc.).
• Demonstrated success working with diverse student populations.
• Commitment to cultivating a work environment and student experience that embraces inclusion.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teach full-time each semester on topics related to design drawing and design theory and methods.
• Provide student academic advisement and conduct assessment of student learning. This includes contributing to academic program assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement processes, in collaboration with faculty and staff.
• Demonstrate organizational skills and collegiality.
• Collaborate with other faculty to maintain / develop course curricula.
• Foster a rigorous and inclusive learning environment.
• Schedule, maintain office hours and/or online availability for students, in alignment with departmental expectations; including assessment of student learning.
• Provide grades following the process/timeline established by the registrar.
• Participate in the university online learning environment, which includes the learning management system.
• Participate in early alert and other student success initiatives as requested.
• Work with the Disability Services office ( http://www.uwstout.edu/disability ) to foster an inclusive learning environment when students disclose the need for learning accommodations.
• Perform other duties as designated by the Department Chair.

The School of Art & Design has over 85 faculty/staff and over 1,100 students, making it the largest public higher education art and design institution in the upper Midwest. There are seven distinct BFA programs, including Animation and Digital Media, Game Design and Development, Graphic Design and Interactive Media, Industrial and Product Design, Interior Design, Illustration, and Studio Art. The school is also home to Bachelor of Science programs in Video Production, Arts Administration and Entrepreneurship, and Fashion Design as well as an MFA program in Design and an MPS in Design, Entrepreneurship & Sustainability.
